As we have renovated, added on and new built this whole property to suit our needs we like everything about it. Everything we need is on one level yet we have two more bedrooms and a fourth bathroom upstairs for when the kids come home or we have guests. We also have a guest cottage close to the house that gets lots of use when the grown children come with our wonderful grandchildren or we have friends visiting. The pool with its own gardens gets lots of use from June to September with our crew, and lots of the neighbors and sometimes just us! The large patio off the dining room is wonderful for morning tea, evening meals and roasting marshmallows or just watching the flames of an evening fire.
The house includes a large kitchen, dining room, living room with wood burning fireplace, powder room, Doug’s den with hundreds of books and the master bedroom with ensuite and walk in closet. As mentioned there are two more bedrooms and a bath upstairs and a guest bedroom and bath downstairs but the downstairs is used for Doug’s tools, his wine making and household storage.
This home provides us and we hope our family and friends with a feeling of welcome, love and tranquility and is wonderful to come home to after being away.
Our home is on an acre property on the edge of town and so has the best of all worlds. It is a much larger lot than being in town normally allows and yet you can easily walk to the downtown shopping and restaurant areas of Main St, to the University and all that happens there and to the local park. There is a beautiful waterside walking trail 2 minutes from our home and the large hub hospital is just up the road past that. There are a number of beaches just 10 to 20 minutes from our house in any direction.
We love small town life and the people that make it so great yet because we are a university town we are lucky enough to benefit from that institution and the people it draws in so many ways. We have live theatre, art galleries and a vibrant art community. The availability of classes, lectures, meetings and cultural activities provides us with a wonderful bonus you usually only find in a larger center.
Antigonish is known as the Highland Heart of Nova Scotia. Many of the residents can trace their Scottish heritage and the oldest Highland Games outside of Scotland are held here every year in July.
