Our house is a great place for a family base for exploring the area. We have two Teenaged boys and like to cook, so we have lots of games, toys and space to relax. There is a sitting area and terrace outside, with a BBQ. The kitchen is a good space for Japan, with elderly appliances, but is fully stocked. There are four bedrooms upstairs, and a toilet and bathroom, and a second toilet and soaker bath is located on the ground floor. We have a full sized washer and dryer. There is high speed wireless in the house as well. It is a short walk to a local grocery shop, an amazing bakery, and convenience stores. There are several restaurants on the big street at the bottom of the hill. There are two little malls about 20 minutes walk away. It is 8 minutes walk to a bus stop that will take you (about 10 min) to a JR train to central Yokohama, or into Tokyo. You can walk to the train stations in about 30 minutes. We have two adult bikes and two 8-12 year old kid bikes. We ride all the time, to the parks, the harbour, to get shopping, etc. We have a parking space for a car, but we don't own one. There are quite a few hills, but it adds to the adventure.
We are in a quiet area, but a five minute walk to the Bus, and about 10 min ride to a train line which takes you south to the beach by Kamakura, or north to central Yokohama and beyond that to Tokyo. Close to us is Sankeien Garden, a beautiful Japanese garden with historic buildings and lovely walks. You can get a delicious bowl of udon noodles in the park as well! If you walk in the opposite direction across the valley there is a lovely park, on the Honmoku ridge, with a large, popular picnic area with nice paths and even a Mt Fuji view point, green space for the kids to run around, a playground at one end. The mall is at the far end with lots of restaurants and two excellent grocery stores. If you take the train to Ofuna and then Kamakura (about 40 min, ticket about 600 yen) you can visit the world heritage shrines and giant Buddha, and walk along the beach (our kids love to swim there, and you can also get surfing lessons).
Large family room with big windows to the garden.
8 minutes walk to the bus, 25 min ride to central Yokohama or to the train for Tokyo.
Peaceful, for Japan! At the end of a Lane with a park behind us (although there is no access from our side, it means it’s pretty quiet with lots of birds).
