What you will love about this home
Our home is one of the oldest in town. It was recently renovated with new windows, roof, appliances, solar panels and infloor heating. Beautiful plaster walls, original moldings and chandeliers allow it to retain the feel of a century home. There are two large fireplaces (one functional, propane-run), a stain glass window in the dining room and beautiful inlaid hardwood floors. We have more than an acre of land with many trees, shrubs and a vegetable and berry garden. Our large deck overlooks the gardens and the East River. There are lovely walking and biking paths throughout the neighbourhood, and Melmerby beach provincial park is less than 20 km away. The ferry to Prince Edward Island is very close by. We have a laundry room off the modern kitchen and a light filled living room. The den is cozy, and the basement has a finished rec room and back entrance to the garden. The master bedroom has a large picture window looking out on the garden and there is an ensuite with a jacuzzi tub and a large shower.
What you will love about this neighborhood
New Glasgow is centrally located in Northern Nova Scotia, 103 km north of the capital city of Halifax and 110 km south of Cape Breton, where you will find the famous Cabot Trail. This is a great spot to jump off from to see this province. The town is located on the scenic East River and is only a bike ride (18 km) from Melmerby Beach Provincial park, which has a lovely view of Prince Edward Island and provides lifeguards (and is free for day visits). Other uncrowded beaches and hiking trails are close by. The town was founded by Scottish immigrants in the late 18th century, so there is a feel of Scotland here with gray stone buildings and cozy pubs. During the summer months it is not unusual to hear pipers at the many festivals and parades. Our town is hockey and curling crazy in the winter - we have our own hockey team called the Crushers that play every Thursday night at the local rink, and 5 curling rinks within a 10 km radius. There is also a ski hill 1 hour away. In the summer months, soccer and water sports are popular - boating, fishing, surfing, scuba and swimming. For golfers, there are several 18 hole public courses close to town.
