What you will love about this home
A 2012 article about Plovdiv, Bulgaria in the New York Times was entitled "Bulgaria: Roman Grandeur East of Italy."
The house is at the heart of the Old Town, "a tree-lined maze of cobblestone streets, antiques stores, Roman ruins, restaurants and museums that is closed in many places to cars."

The house is equipped with very fast WiFi Internet and Cable TV
The cost of living is the lowest in Europe, including Bulgarian wine for 2 Euros a bottle.
Organic fruit and veg, cheese and yoghurt at the local market
The house has a pretty and private little garden where you can eat out in the summer (and smoke cigarettes). There is a BBQ (with a supply of charcoal) and a table-tennis table (with bats and balls).
Tennis on great clay courts at the nearby park
Swim at the large outdoor pool at Hotel Trimontium.
Enjoy the evening promenade at the cafes in the centre, 10 minute stroll.
The Region:
Hiking in the summer or Skiing in the winter at Pamporovo Ski Resort (90 km)
The Pirin Mountains - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - and Bansko ski resort are a 160 km drive or bus journey
Mineral water spa resort at the Roman town of Hissara 50 km
Bachkovo Monastery in the Rhodope Mountains 35 km
Aegean Sea and the Greek Islands (from Kavala Port) 240 km
The Black Sea is 300 km - a very easy drive on the new motorway that passes across the country. (We love Sozopol and the UNESCO World heritage town of Nessebar.)
Istanbul is 5 hours on the train on the old Orient Express line that passes through Plovdiv.
Getting here: Fly to Sofia (120 km) or direct to Plovdiv (RyanAir)
The weather is beautiful summer from May to October although it does get very hot in the summer. (The house has Air-Con units.)
Winters (December - March) tend to be crisp and sunny with lots of snow. The house is well placed for skiing trips to Pamporovo and Bansko Ski Resorts. The house is a cosy place to stay in the winter. There is a fireplace in the living room, and there is another fire in the mehana (tavern) in the basement. Here you can enjoy a cosy dinner in front of the fire.
What you will love about this neighborhood
The Plovdiv Old Town is a very special place. You can read about Plovdiv in the New York Times Travel section here:

There are great cafes and beer-gardens with live music in the Old Town. There are also classical concerts at the Amphitheatre which is up the hill from us, and at the Ethnographic Museum in the Old Town.
The house is 3 minutes from the Roman amphitheatre.
There's a really nice fruit and vegetable market nearby where you can buy organic produce. There's also a good Italian pizzzeria and an excellent Turkish restaurant and many traditional Bulgarian restaurants close to us.
Our friend Angelina lives nearby and will help you with everything. Also we will email you directions and a map and Angelina's telephone number before you arrive.
