In this respect, our Cookie Usage Policy demonstrates our desire to ensure that HomeExchange Inc. complies with the rules applicable to the protection of personal data and, more specifically, those relating to cookies used when you use our HomeExchange platform or on our mobile application /APP/.

If you would like information on the other personal data processing operations we carry out, please consult our Personal Data Privacy Policy, which can be accessed at any time on our HomeExchange platform or on our mobile application /APP/.

What are cookies and can they identify you directly?

A cookie is a small "text" file placed and hosted by a server on your terminal (e.g. smartphone, tablet or computer) when you visit a website or use a web platform or a mobile application.

A cookie does not enable you to be identified personally, as it only enables your terminal to be identified via your IP address, as well as various information linked to your browsing (e.g. browsing time, pages viewed, size of your screen, etc.).

What are technical cookies and why do we use them?

The proper functioning of our HomeExchange platform or HomeExchange mobile application necessarily involves the use of technical cookies, which we may use without your prior consent, on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing you with a functional platform or mobile application.

For example, a technical cookie is used to remember the language of your platform/mobile application and the format to make future connections and browsing/navigation easier.

Although we do not recommend it, you can always prevent these cookies from being deposited on your terminal using your browser settings by following the instructions below: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Firefox and Opera.

In this case, however, your user experience may be degraded. To restore good browsing quality, you will need to reset the technical cookies.

What are statistical cookies and why do we use them?

A statistical cookie is used to analyse your use of a web platform or a mobile application (e.g. browsing time, pages visited, etc.) in order to improve your experience and provide you with a service tailored to your needs.

For our HomeExchange platform or our HomeExchange mobile application, we use non-exempt statistical cookies which can only be placed on your terminal with your prior consent expressed via our cookies banner.

What are advertising cookies and why do we use them?

An advertising cookie can be used either to provide advertising on a web platform or on a mobile application (particularly in the form of "push notifications") to identify the source of the user's arrival on the web platform (e.g. Google, Bing, etc.).

We use advertising cookies to be listed on search engines (e.g. Google, Bing, etc.) and to identify the source from which the user arrives on our platform.

Advertising cookies are only placed on your terminal with your prior consent, given via our cookies banner.

WE GUARANTEE THAT WE DO NOT USE ANY ADVERTISING COOKIES FOR THE OPERATION OF OUR MOBILE APPLICATION.

What personal data do we process with our cookies and for how long?

The personal data processed by the cookies we use are :

●   your IP address and a user ID that we create when you first connect so that we can recognise you for up to 13 months

●   if you accept the deposit of statistical cookies, your personal data relating to your browsing on our platform or on our mobile application (e.g. pages visited, browsing times, etc.) for a maximum period of 13 months, non-renewable before any new connection before the 14th month.

●   If you accept search engine referencing cookies to identify the source from which you arrived on our platform, your IP address, your user ID and the site visited for a maximum period of 13 months, non-renewable before any new connection before the 14th month.

Once the retention periods specified below have expired, we do not retain any data about you. At the most, we may anonymise your data for statistical purposes.

How do you control the use of cookies?

You have the right to refuse cookies at any time using our cookies banner.

If the cookies banner is no longer displayed, you can also configure cookies via the "manage cookies" tab on our site or directly on your browser by following the instructions below: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Firefox and Opera.

What rights do you have to control the use of your personal data via cookies?

The applicable data protection regulations give you specific rights which you can exercise, at any time and free of charge, to control the use we make of your data.

●   The right to access and copy your personal data, provided that this request does not conflict with business secrecy, confidentiality or the confidentiality of correspondence.

●   The right to rectify any personal data that is incorrect, obsolete or incomplete.

●   The right to request the deletion ("right to be forgotten") of your personal data that is not essential for the proper functioning of our services.

●   The right to limit your personal data, which allows you to photograph the use of your data in the event of a dispute over the legitimacy of processing.

●   The right to data portability, which allows you to recover part of your personal data so that it can be easily stored or transmitted from one information system to another.

●   The right to give instructions on what should happen to your data in the event of your death, either through you, a trusted third party or a beneficiary.

For a request to be taken into account, it must be sent directly by you to dpo@homeexchange.com. Any request that is not made in this way cannot be processed.

Requests cannot come from anyone other than you. We may therefore ask you to provide proof of identity if there is any doubt about the identity of the person making the request.

We will respond to your request as quickly as possible, subject to a maximum of three months from receipt if the request is technically complex or if we receive many requests at the same time.

Please note that we can always refuse to respond to any excessive or unfounded request, particularly if it is repetitive.

Can your personal data used via our cookies be transferred outside the European Union?

The statistical and advertising cookies we use may send your IP address and user ID outside the European Union in order to function. In this case, we guarantee that these tools comply strictly with the applicable rules on transfers in order to guarantee confidentiality and adequate protection of your personal data.

How can you contact the CNIL?

I. What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer for record keeping purposes. Cookies can be either session cookies or persistent cookies. A session cookie expires when you close your browser and is used to make it easier for you to navigate our Sites. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time.

We use first-party cookies, which are cookies set by us, and third-party cookies, which are cookies from a domain different than the domain of the website you are visiting, for our advertising and marketing efforts.

II. Types of Cookies We Use

We may use the following cookies:

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies. These cookies are essential for the operation of our Sites and cannot be disabled through our cookie settings. They enable core functionalities such as page navigation, and without them the Sites cannot function properly and certain services you request may not be available.
  • Functional Cookies. These cookies allow the website to remember choices you make, such as your account login data, and provide enhanced, more personalized features. Disabling these cookies may result in reduced functionality.
  • Performance Cookies. These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Sites. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the Sites. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our Sites, and will not be able to monitor their performance.
  • Targeting Cookies. These cookies may be set through our Sites by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising.

III. What We Use Cookies For

We use cookies to identify you when you access the Site, to personalize your experience on the Site, to provide ads, marketing communications and social media features, to analyze our traffic and customers’ interactions with advertising banners, and to identify repeat visitors for statistical purposes. We also share information about your use of the Site with our social media, and advertising partners, who may combine it with other information that you have provided to them or that they have collected from your use of their services.

IV. Choice to Accept or Decline Cookies

When you first visit our Site, we provide you with a choice to either accept or deny certain cookies. If you choose to decline cookies, please note that some of the features and services of the Site may not function as well as intended. Even if you choose to accept cookies, you are always free to change your mind and revoke that consent. Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies. Please note that the Sites use certain cookies that are strictly necessary for the Sites to work and allow you to use the functions of our services. Without this type of cookies, you cannot receive the requested services. These cookies enable services that you have specifically requested and allow you to use the Sites’ features (e.g., logging in). We need these cookies to provide you with our services and you cannot deny strictly necessary cookies.

V. Updates to Our Cookie Policy

HomeExchange may amend or update all or any portion of this Cookie Policy, at any time, without notice, in its sole discretion. Please access this section regularly to verify if any changes were made to our Cookie Policy and to review the updated Cookie Policy.
