Christine tell us about their trip to the lovely Brittany region of France.

How did you find your exchange?

I contacted the other member in search of an exchange.

What attracted you to this exchange opportunity?

We wanted to visit Brittany, to stay in a village by the sea. And we wanted our accommodation to be easy walking distance to centre ville. Kouign amann are native to this area, and we had plans to taste as many as possible!

How was your arrival at the home?

Louis and Ghislaine greeted us on arrival ... the apartment is on the first floor of their home, with private entrance. They are delightful people, were very patient with my limited French language skills and showed us everything we needed to know for the apartment. There was a stack of info brochures on the coffee table.

What did you see or do during your exchange?

We explored the Finistère department of Brittany ... from the westernmost part of France at La Pointe du Raz to La Musée Memoires west of Brest, from La Base submarine pens in Lorient built as part of the WW2 German Atlantic Wall to the plus beau village of Locranan. We have visited maybe 20 of the plus beaux villages of France and Locranan is a special one. Concarneau itself is a great town to wander. And of course, we ate local fresh seafood, crepes and KOUIGN AMANN the wonderful buttery pastries.

What is your favorite memory from the exchange?

La Pointe du Raz ... there is a walk out to the point, not far maybe 30 minutes, and then you can explore the cliffs and enjoy the view. The cliffs are craggy, there are rocky islands and islets just off shore and the Atlantic Ocean stretches to and beyond the horizon. Go early, 9am, and beat the tour buses - you will have the walk almost to yourself. And when you return to the starting point, the cafés will be open! Perfect!
Audierne and Pont Croix each have a town walk of about 20 minutes, and are both delightful villages to visit on the way back to Concarneau.

How would you describe home exchange to your family and friends?
