Swiss Alps and In-laws
We were so excited when a family from Switzerland was happy to exchange their fabulous home in the mountains for our village home in Oxfordshire, England. We are all keen skiers so we couldn’t believe our luck! One of our most treasured memories was an evening spent with our exchange partner’s in-laws. They stopped by to make sure we had snow chains (there had been a huge dumping of snow the night we arrived) and invited us to join them for an après-ski. What was even more incredible was that though they spoke very little English and our French/German was ‘poor’ at best, we thoroughly enjoyed our time together and “sampled” some fantastic local wine! I find it hard to imagine experiencing such a heartfelt, local welcome at any hotel. Our children still laugh about it to this day!

Owning a home in Whistler BC, a world renowned ski resort appeals to skiers from around the globe. Over the years we have gotten a multitude of inquiries, and several have resulted in exchanges. My wife and I are happily retired and though our skiing days are behind us we are very active and LOVE to travel. No Crowds, No queues, NO PROBLEM!
Last year we went on a ski holiday in the Spanish Pyrenees thanks to HomeExchange. We exchanged with a family who owns a second home in Panticosa – a really nice ski town, close to the ski runs making it easy not to drive in the whole week! Skiing in Spain was like skiing off-season as there were no crowds and zero queues to the cable cars. We got along very well with our exchange partners and met up with them again in the summer. Since then, my exchange partner, Ana Cristina, started to learn French and I started Spanish so we practice together via Whatsapp! Long live Skiing, HomeExchange and Whatsapp!

An Expensive Hobby becomes Affordable Skiing More for Less
Without HomeExchange, we would not be able to travel nearly as often as we do. We feel so fortunate to have found so many wonderful exchange partners! Because everyone has always been so considerate and generous, we have always had wonderful experiences. We Ski while You Shop
In December we did a weekend exchange with a family from Lillehammer, Norway. They wanted to go on a Christmas shopping trip but didn’t want to get an expensive hotel in Oslo. We were all too happy to exchange and go skiing without having to rent a cabin. We stayed at their lovely penthouse apartment right in the center of town, enjoyed cross country skiing and charming Lillehammer, while they had a successful shopping trip and visiting friends in Oslo.
