Alina has hosted and been a guest for multiple home exchanges, after learning about HomeExchange from a friend (pssst: you can refer your friends to join and earn GuestPoints when they do!). Alina formerly swore by Airbnb, but after using HomeExchange, she'll never go back! We asked Alina some questions about her experience with HomeExchange.

What are some of your biggest fears when hosting another member?

Leaving my beloved sanctuary in the hands of an unknown.

How did you overcome this fear?

My first hosting experience was for just two days. I talked myself into it because I really wanted to be an active member here. I figured, if I could do it for a few days, I could eventually work up to leaving my home in the hands of the community for longer periods. Now, I've hosted three times!

Tell us about a memorable experience with a guest.

Two of my guests left heartfelt thank-you notes and gifts, such as wine and a small painting.

What do you like most about hosting other members?

I like that we’re all connected on this site with a common interest. It really feels like an alternative community. Like a type of socialism that can’t be corrupted.

How do you prepare your home for your Guests?

I have a little guidebook that I made with house details and all kinds of recommendations.

What tips and tricks would you give to others who are hosting?

I would tell new members that everyone on this site is here because they love their home, and everyone’s intention is to treat your home as theirs. And that in case of emergencies, HomeExchange will always have their back!!

What did you realize after you hosted for the first time?

That I was right to trust this site and embark on this new lifestyle of home exchanges. That it’s way better than Airbnb!!
