Reconnecting with Family Roots Through HomeExchange

Easter weekend in Avernes meant something truly special to me.

This small village of 870 people is where my grandparents spent their lives. It's a place filled with memories, family stories, and deep emotion.
But this trip carried even more weight. It was deeply personal: retracing my mother's story, diving back into our family's roots, and walking the paths that shaped part of who she is.
It was an intense weekend, full of family reunions, conversations, shared memories, and moments that moved us deeply.

And then, as if by fate, we found a home exchange listing in Avernes - the only one in the entire village. The dates weren't even available. But when I reached out to our host, I explained why we wanted to come - and what this trip back home truly meant to us.
She told me: "We weren't planning to go anywhere, but I'll figure something out."
She made it happen, welcoming us with remarkable warmth and opening the doors to her beautiful home with genuine enthusiasm. She even prepared thoughtful little touches that moved us more than she probably knew.
That's the real magic of home exchange. It goes far beyond a place to stay. It's human connection, trust, generosity, and sometimes a piece of emotion that passes from one family to another.

Meanwhile, our own home was writing its own story, welcoming a set of grandparents enjoying precious time with their grandchildren.
