How our home exchanges in Quebec led us to say "I do" overlooking the St. Lawrence River.

At HomeExchange, we love hearing from the people who know it best: our members. Laurence is one of them. She decided to get married between two home exchanges during her trip to Quebec.

After a tough year, we decided to fly out and meet up with two Quebec couples we had befriended two years earlier in Chile. Friends we had traveled alongside through Chile and Bolivia. We share a truly special bond with them.

We decided to explore Quebec together for six weeks: sometimes as a group of four, sometimes six, depending on everyone's schedules.

We had two reciprocal exchanges lined up before we left. Then we got lucky and quickly found five more. All places that could fit four to six people, and every single one was unforgettable. Sweeping views of the St. Lawrence, dream chalets, hot tubs...

From Montreal to Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, from Anse-Saint-Jean to Rimouski, from Kamouraska to Magog, and finally Quebec City. So many wonderful moments!

A huge thank you to all our hosts, who so warmly welcomed us into their homes. You know who you are. And to our friends, who turned this trip into an incredible adventure: laughter, emotion, hikes, long conversations, board games, cheese and wine nights, and shared meals we'll never forget.

Quebec will stay with us forever: for the warmth and the unmistakable accent of its people, for our amazing home exchanges, for its breathtaking landscapes (even more stunning during fall foliage season), for the glorious Indian summer, and for the beluga whales, bears, porcupines, deer, and squirrels we spotted along the way.

During this unforgettable trip, in the beautiful grounds of Domaine Forget in Charlevoix, in Sainte-Irénée, overlooking the St. Lawrence, with our four friends as witnesses and between two home exchanges, we chose to make it official. After 33 years of love and life together.

We had made the decision just two months earlier. Barely enough time to ask our friends to be our witnesses, find a venue and an officiant, and get the paperwork started. What a joy it was to have an outdoor ceremony in an enchanting setting, right in the middle of our vacation, with zero stress.

We left our home exchange in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François that morning, got married 30 minutes away in Sainte-Irénée, then all six of us headed to a new home exchange in Anse-Saint-Jean. Along the way, we came across the most beautiful mirror effect we had ever seen: the autumn forest reflecting perfectly in the still water. Absolutely magical.

That evening, all six of us, newlyweds included, rolled up our sleeves and cooked our wedding feast together in our host's kitchen. Just as we had hoped, it was a celebration that felt completely like us. Without a doubt, the perfect ending to a beautiful journey.
