At HomeExchange, we like to give a voice to those who can best describe it: our members. This testimonial was written by Myriam, a HomeExchange member from Guadeloupe, who share with us her 10 home exchanges around the world this year.

How does HomeExchange work?

Ten incredible exchanges across the globe

Our journey began in January as we set course for Southern Vietnam. We were welcomed with open arms by an unforgettable French-Vietnamese family. Alongside our host, we explored the temples surrounding Saigon, enjoyed serene days on the banks of the Mekong, and savored family meals—true feasts featuring a multitude of shared dishes.

In February, we continued to Laos. Our first stop was Vang Vieng, where a room with an extraordinary view awaited us. Later, in Luang Prabang, an apartment overlooking a branch of the Mekong provided the perfect backdrop for discovering this magical region.

March took us to Central and Northern Vietnam. Based at our "home away from home" with an expat family in Hanoi, we ventured out to explore everything from Hội An to the Chinese border, including the legendary Ha Long Bay. After two months of adventure—alternating between charming boutique hotels and HomeExchange stays—we returned to our island home in Guadeloupe.

By June, it was time to head to France for a HomeExchange in a spacious house in Brem-sur-Mer to reunite with our children and grandchildren. We then traveled to the Val d’Anniviers in Switzerland, where a chalet with a "wow" view offered beautiful family hikes in cherished memory of our mother.

After a quiet summer at home, October brought a unique twist: a non-simultaneous reciprocal exchange where our home was hosted. We took the opportunity to enjoy Port-Louis in a charming apartment with breathtaking sunsets. This was followed by a trip to Marie-Galante, staying in a home with a massive pool, sea views, and a wonderful host, Dominique.

Did you think we were ready to settle down? Not a chance! While our exchanges are usually planned months in advance, a November whim led us to New Orleans for a hospitality exchange. Despite our "broken" English, we formed a genuine bond with our hosts. Their traditional home, the city, and the spirit of Louisiana truly captured our hearts.

Shortly after our return, a special opportunity arose: a trip back to Les Saintes to pet-sit Jack, a dog we had fallen in love with three years prior. Though we had never met the owners, they trusted us with Jack for four days—we couldn't say no!

As the year draws to a close, we are preparing to leave once more in just twenty days. It’s a reciprocal exchange between Niagara-on-the-Lake and Guadeloupe. The ultimate match-up is on: flip-flops vs. snow boots, parkas vs. swimwear! Our hosts have even prepared everything we need to brave the Canadian winter.

Thanks to the hosts who opened their doors and shared their lives with us, and thanks to the HomeExchange community, 2025 has been nothing short of incredible.

2026 is already in the works…
