We are looking ONLY for an exchange in Tokyo of at least three weeks covering July 22 - Aug 10 2020 (that's it, just Tokyo 2020). Donna and Ralph are a retired couple who have traveled extensively around the world and have done 13+ home exchanges. This is our second home, so exchange need not be simultaneous. Only Tokyo 2020! The Pacific Ocean is right out your window in this beautiful 2,400 sq ft multi-level townhouse in a secure development, the Monterey Dunes Colony (http://www.montereydunes.com), which has 2 miles of beachfront, swimming pool, tennis courts, hot tub, and other sport courts. The development was built in the mid-1970's and we remodeled our living room in 2001 and the kitchen in 2006 and all bathrooms and laundry room. One bedroom has a king size bed with en suite bathroom. One bedroom has a queen size bed with en suite bathroom. One bedroom has a queen size bed and shared bathroom. One bedroom has a pull out sofa bed. High speed internet access. Home is on 4 levels, with 6-8 stairs between levels. Our home is directly across the street from the clubhouse/swimming pool/tennis courts. We have bicycles available for use, plenty of firewood, and sports equipment.

The home is on a quiet state beach, where you will be uninterrupted on your long walks. Our community, Monterey Dunes Colony, is surrounded by beach on the west and artichoke and strawberry fields on the east. Fresh fish and locally grown produce are available within 5 minutes, major supermarkets within 10 minutes, and movies/restaurants within 10-20 minutes. There is a bike path along the coastline from here to the Monterey Aquarium and Pebble Beach. The quaint town of Carmel, historic Monterey, and famous Pebble Beach golf courses are less than an half hour away. Just 5 minutes away: kayaking and whale watching excursions departures in Moss Landing at the moth of the Elkhorn Preserve, with otters, seals, and migrating birds. Santa Cruz is 30 minutes north on Highway 1. South on Highway 1 are Point Lobos State Park (equivalent to the best oceanside parks anywhere), Big Sur, and wineries less than an hour away. Even Hearst Castle is a day trip from here.

This area of the northern California coast can be cool, windy and overcast during the summer in the early mornings and late afternoons. The water is rough and cold, it is not a "swimming" beach. Monterey Dunes is a gated community with few full-time residents and can be very quiet mid-week. On weekends during busy times of the years there may be 30-40 of the 120 units occupied with a mix of owners and renters (and a few exchangers?). There are many easy to reach day trips: San Francisco around 2 hours away; Santa Cruz (and a warm beach and the boardwalk); Carmel Valley for golf and wine tasting is 30-35 minutes drive; Salinas Valley also offers wine tasting, around 45 minutes; and Paso Robles, 2 hours away, is a very well known Rhone-style red wine region.
