Our little house sits on 2 acres overlooking a pond and then the ocean on the beautiful Nova Scotia north shore. It’s fully furnished and insulated, with in floor heat and a wood stove, so comfortable year round. There is a very large front deck and a screened in porch. The house is only 15 years old.
The pull out bed is new and both beds are queen size. We also just had friends visit with 3 teens. They slept on our high end air mattresses, so the house held 7. It was tight for the night time, but doable. In the morning, we put away all the portable beds and it was back to what you see in the photos.
There is a large tub and a separate large shower. We have board games, movies, puzzles and books.
Big island beach is accessible by kayak (we have 3) across the pond, or is 3 km away. This beach has a shallow entrance so is great for the full family. It’s never busy and you can walk for hours. In the evening, you can fish for sea bass. Please see additional notes re use of the pond.
In winter the sledding is great, or skate on the pond. Or just relax in front of the wood stove.
Beautiful sunsets summer and winter.
We prefer a minimum of 5 days but are open to requests. We are also interested in a 1-4 month exchange in the winter.
NOTE: we also list our primary residence with Home Exchange, titled: Sunny home near many beaches #2059174
Besides the beach? And the quiet?
The house is in Pictou County, known as the sunset shore. It is 25 minutes to New Glasgow, 35 minutes to Pictou town where you will find great live theatre at the DeCoste Center. The PEI ferry is about 35 minutes and the Causeway to Cape Breton is about an hour. The university town of Antigonish is 30 minutes and has live theatre with Festival Antigonish, as well as a lively music scene, and several brew pubs.
Major grocery shopping is done in New Glasgow or Antigonish. A smaller store is 5 minutes from the house and also has a gas station and liquor store.
Nearby food trucks sell fresh seafood, pizza, and burgers. Steinhart brewery and it’s prize winning gin are 10 minutes away. A farmers market is held every Sunday, only 10 minutes away.
Please note: life jackets/PFDs must be worn at all times when on the pond. We provide these. Guests are welcome to bring non motorized water craft to use on the pond, such as wind surfers and paddle boards. Motorized craft are NOT allowed in the pond.
