Garland House served for many years as a popular short-term rental, delighting tourists and area professionals. We have hosted film crews, construction teams, family holiday gatherings, seasonal professional athletes, guys get-aways for golf and bourbon tours, and even several pedigree Best-in-Shows, their owners, handlers and judges! This is all to say the place works for a variety of needs, and that while we take special care to keep the place hypo-allergenic and scent-free as much as possible, we do allow very well behaved pets with prior approval. We inclusive and accommodating to children, be they human or canine. Now, in response to changing needs due to the pandemic, we are focusing on professionals and families seeking accomodations for longer stays - from one to six months. We maintain a beautiful, safe, and inspired environment, as we would for our short-stay clientele, we still cater to our guests needs and really foster that feeling of home. We are fastidious with our care and upkeep, and maintain direct communication with guests, to stay informed and offer the best service possible. This is a family business, no management company, and no hassle. Located two blocks from Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby, Garland House is ideally located for race fans as well as anyone looking to explore the local culture in Louisville and the region. In close proximity to the airport, expo center, University of Louisville, and the southern parkways, it is a uniquely quiet getaway within the action. Set in a vibrant and diverse working class neighborhood, the frontage on Central Ave has lots of regular pedestrian foot traffic, sports focused energy, and family vibe unlike anywhere else in town. Within a few blocks you have a local Pic Pac grocery, gas station and long-standing dive bar, all in easy walking distance. Louisville landmark Wagner's is not to be missed, a short walk + great prelude to a visit to the Kentucky Derby Museum just a few blocks from your front door. Larger chain amenities, bank, and quick food options are a short 2 minute drive to near-by Central Station shopping center on 2nd. Excellent thrift shop, dollar store, pharmacy and Ace Hardware all a quick 3 minute drive, for any last minute necessities. Gentrifying Beechmont is just a ride up Fredrick Law Olmstead designed esplanade Southern Parkway. Iroquois Park and Amphitheater + Central Park, both abt a 10 minute drive. The heart of UofL is super close, and the newly renovated Speed Art Museum is a quick drive up 4th Street. Several other inexpensive local restaurants in the vicinity - regular top picks for Vietnemse, Pan-African, BBQ and Mexican. South Louisville is frankly quite under appreciated, it is sometimes considered by long-time east end residents, as a little rough around the edges. However, we at Garland House believe otherwise, and are squarely situated in the positive emerging energy of the area. We share a strong pride of place which has always been an important part of the character of South Louisville. Of course your comfort and safety is tantamount, we have taken care to insure your protection, with outward facing security cameras, and lightening. Just like anywhere else, please be aware of your surroundings and respectful of our neighbors. We feel certain you will soon appreciate the warmth and unique charm the area has to offer. We keep an extensive suggestion book on site, stock the place with local periodicals and entertainment updates, and are more than happy to provide suggestions or facilitate your visit, please feel free to ask. Getting around: Local bus service on the corner. Lyft, uber, taxi all in quick and easy supply. Can arrange for bike use / rental upon request. Ample parking on premises.
