Our home is a nice, single-story house in a quite and family friendly residential area in Garðabær, a Reykjavík suburb. The house is tidy and recently renovated. There are three bedrooms; master bedroom with a king size bed and a 42“ TV and two smaller bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and 32“ TV and the other with a single bed. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, a nice modern furniture living room, TV room with a big screen smart TV (55“), 1.5 bathrooms (one with a walk-in shower) and a washing room with a washing machine and a dryer. There are two parking spaces for the house. On the patio there is outdoor furniture and a big BBQ and in the backyard there is a big trampoline.
The views from the house are really nice, overlooking the Kópavogur and Seltjarnarnes area, the mountains North of Reykjavík, as well as glaciated volcano Snæfellsjökull. In summer you can see the midnight sun almost set right next to Snæfellsjökull before it starts rising again. The house is situated in a dead-end street in a quiet and family friendly area with many playgraounds, walking paths and hiking trails nearby. In the house there is ultra fast internet (ca. 300 mbps wifi and 1 gbps wired).
Car exchange (2012 VW Passat) can be discussed as part of the exchange.
The area (Garðabær) is quiet, safe and tidy and is considered desireable to live in. Within 10 minutes walk, there is a low cost grocery store, 24h grocery shop, ice cream shops, restaurants, bakery and more. About 5 mins drive are more bakeries, restaurants and the biggest shopping mall in Iceland. Reykjavík city center, which is hugely popular for tourists, is about 10-15 min drive. In downtown Reykjavík there are a lot of restaurants from low budget to high end as well as bars, nightclubs and shops.
About 15 minute walk (5 mins drive) from our house there is is a really nice geothermal public pool area with outdoor pools and hot tub jacuzzis as well:
In Reykjavík there are a lot of things to do. There are seven geothermal swimming pools in Reykjavík city and at least 7 others in the surrounding suburbs (http://reykjavik.is/sundlaugar). You can also go whale watching and take tours where you can drive a snow scooter on glaciers. Hiking is also very poular near Reykjavík, for example mt. Esja (ca. 900m) is popular for mountain hiking.
In the surrounding area there are also popular places to visit like the Blue Lagoon (ca 30mins), Geysir (hot spring, 1 hour), Gullfoss (waterfall, 1 hour), Mt Hekla (volcano, 1,5 hours), Eyjafjallajökull (volcano which erupted in 2010, 2 hours), Jökulsárlón (a beautiful lagoon with a lot of icebergs in it, 3 hours) and beautiful nature all around.
Driving the Ring Road around Iceland is very popular. There are really many places of interest and you will be amazed how diverse the landscape is on that route. Mountains, glaciers, geothermal areas, black sand deserts, green valleys and fjords, small villages and much more: https://guidetoiceland.is/best-of-iceland/best-attractions-by-the-ring-road-of-iceland
