What you will love about this home
The "Forest of Earthly Delights" is our guest space, and is composed of our Harry Potter type"treehouse", Moose Lodge and bathhouse. My husband, Peter, a talented timber framer, artist and lover of wildlife combined these three interests to produce the funky design and beautiful wood details in all of the rooms and buildings. The treehouse is four stories and houses the four bedrooms (all rooms have separate entrances to the outdoors). The Moose Lodge is one large room for hanging out in (kitchen/dining/living space), and then the bathhouse house the toilets and showers. If we're doing a non-simultaneous swap, we live on the same property, just adjacent to our guest buildings, so will be around to assist you if required. We are located rurally on a 10 acre property, 10 minutes from Highway #1, 20 minutes west of Salmon Arm, 5 hours from Vancouver, and 4 hours from Banff in the Shuswap area - a very popular tourist destination because of the pristine lakes and mountains. This is a fully functioning hobby farm, so you can expect to share the same path as our free range laying hens and Indian runner ducks, but the good news is you're welcome to eat their yummy eggs while you're here! We don't use insecticides/any chemicals, and so it is a very healthy environment for all living things. We have two very friendly dogs, and two attention craving cats, who are all very friendly, and who will enjoy interacting with you. Our property is on a dead end road, backing onto Bastion Mountain, so if you are into peace, quiet, a healthy, getting back to nature, "glampy" experience, then you'll likely enjoy your time here. When we are not doing a home swap, we rent on Airbnb.com and Glampinghub.com under the title "Forest of Earthly Delights".
What you will love about this neighborhood
We live 5 minutes from Shuswap Lake, which is very popular with locals and visitors alike, because it is so large and clean. We have our own local winery (Sunnybrae Winery) also only 5 minutes away, and you are welcome to forage in our vegetable and fruit and berry gardens while you're here. In the winter, Silver Star Mountain and Revelstoke Mountain Resort are both 1.5 hours away (downhill skiing), and then Larch Hills is half an hour away (cross country skiing).

It is important that you and the members of your group read the following detailed description so that you know what you're getting yourselves into as this is not a "standard" home. This is a very "glampy" experience, meaning comfortable camping, and for people from the city, this will be very different than what you're used to! To enhance the glamping experience, we have recently chosen to go "off grid" so all of our power is generated by us on our property, and we do our utmost to ensure you have electricity when you need it. We are located rurally - there is no public transit anywhere close to us - 10 minutes from Highway #1, 20 minutes west of Salmon Arm, 5 hours from Vancouver, and 4 hours from Banff. We are 15 minutes from the closest restaurant and grocery store, so we recommend purchasing provisions on your way here so you can arrive and relax! As much as possible, we try to limit our EMF exposure due to the negative health effects so wifi is available on a limited basis only. For those who have overt emf responses, when we turn the wifi off, our emf sensor reading goes to zero. Because there is a cell tower on Tappen Mountain which is in full view of our place, cell reception is excellent. My husband, Peter, a talented timber framer, artist and lover of wildlife combined these three interests to produce the funky design and beautiful wood details in all of the rooms. He is continually working on and improving the guest areas and buildings so it is possible that you will see building materials and tools in the area of the guest buildings during the non-snow months. None of the rooms have their own private bathroom and instead guests use the bathroom located in the adjacent bathhouse and there is also a well appointed outhouse (to be clear, the ".5" of the 1.5 bathrooms noted in our listing is the outhouse). Each of the rooms has its own private entrance way to the outdoors (like with camping, to get to the toilet, you walk outside to get there). Because our chickens and ducks roam everywhere, you'll probably not want to wear your city shoes around here - and where there is manure, there are flies. In the summer, it can get very dusty from lack of rain - in fact B.C. is notorious for forest fires during July and August - and because we live in the forest, there are insects (not to discourage you, but it is a fact of life here!). Except for non-deet mosquito spray (from Om Naturale, a local company), we don't use insecticides/any chemicals, and so it is a very healthy environment for all living things. We have bicycles and two canoes, which you are welcome to use.
