Ten things to do in Sligo
Our house is just a 30 min walk, or quick bus ride, into Sligo city where you can eat amazing local cuisine and enjoy the craic and music in some of Ireland's most loved pubs.
In addition to being famous for its stunning coastal location, Sligo is one of Ireland's Trad music and cultural capitals. There is a large collection of Jack Yeats paintings in our local Model Arts Gallery and you can visit his brothers WB Yeats grave in nearby Drumcliff.
“cast a cold eye,
On life, on death,
Horseman pass by .”
Sligo is also steeped in rich history with multiple important megalithic sites such as Carrowmore, Carrowkeel and CreevyKeel Court Tomb. A day trip to nearby Lisadell house is a splendid way to pass the day - overlooking Sligo Bay in the formal stomping grounds of William Butler Yeats. And also visit many of the places that inspired Yeat's poetry: Innishfree, Dooney Rock, Rosses Point. It also inspired pop sensations Westlife, but we don’t talk about them (lol)!!?
For foodies, you'll love our local farmer's markets - near our house. In our local village of Strand Hill enjoy the famous cafe SHELLS, The Strand Bar, or indulge in artisan, award-winning ice-cream from Mammy Johnsons.
