Built in 1930 in the Spanish style in Glendale, our home feels like a retreat as soon as you step inside. Arched entryways, hardwood floors throughout, a giant fireplace, beamed ceilings and hardwood floors create a cozy yet airy space. Every window you look out has a view of the surrounding Angeles National Forest and its mountains, the vine-covered walls, or the pool. The pool house/studio has a kitchenette and bathroom.
There are three large bedrooms, with a full, queen, and king-sized bed. We also have a queen-sized air mattress if needed. The kitchen is a communal space and fun to cook in, or there is the gas grill outside if you like to BBQ. Our recently updated back studio has a full kitchen, additional bathroom/shower, an additional television, Sonos MOVE, and record player, as well as a fold-out sofa.
The saltwater pool is refreshing in summer, and the hot tub can be used year-round, especially if you do an early-morning hike on the Beaudry trail (one mile from our home). Jogging in the neighborhood is easy, and there are two playgrounds in walking distance from our home. Enjoy your coffee on the front patio while you watch the birds in our California native plant garden.
The tree-lined street and the people who live on it have become some of our dear friends. What we all love is the calm feel of our street, even though we are close to the bustle of Los Angeles and Glendale is a city of 200,000 people!
We like to explore Downtown LA, Pasadena, Highland Park, Hollywood, Silverlake, Los Feliz, and Echo Park: they are all a short drive from the house; there is a Metro Bus stop at the end of the street that goes all the way to Downtown LA. If you want a typical U.S. shopping experience, the giant Americana at Brand shopping mall is ten minutes by car.
By car, the beach will take you about 45 minutes, depending on what time/day you go and which beach you choose. Palm Springs is 2 hours away by car, as is San Diego. Santa Barbara is 90 minutes.
Apple TV/Netflix/HBO Now all streaming on the new Bravia television; we have a Sonos system throughout the house. Our son's ample matchbox car collection, LEGOS, and art supplies are yours to enjoy. We have lots of books to enjoy, including children's books in German. The home has a whole-home water filter. Depending on the season, the front terrace lime tree is there for your end-of-day cocktail (help yourself).
We live in the Verdugo Woodlands neighborhood of Glendale, California. A city of 200,000 people, Glendale maintains a small-town feel but still has all the shopping, good food, and amenities that come with life in Los Angeles county. The most striking feature of our area are the woodlands, native oak trees that cover the hillsides and line the streets.
Wonderful outdoor spaces (pool, front terrace, native plant garden, citrus trees), hiking trails + nature
Peaceful and quiet street, but is 15 minutes by car to Downtown LA, Pasadena, Hollywood.
Our neighbors are our friends!
