What you will love about this home
Our home is a small settler's house from the fifties with a modern and light outbuilding of wood, with a total of about 130 sqm. In the new part of the house there is our large living and dining room. In the old part we have a guestroom with a 140 cm bed, our home office and one bathroom. Upstairs there are a second bathroom and three sleeping rooms. In the parents' bedroom there is a 160 cm bed. In the children's bedrooms we have one standard size bed and one standard size high bed. Our sofa in the living room is also a comfortable sleeping possibility for two people. So the "normal booking" would be up to five adults/bigger children, but two more adults would also be possible if you are flexible. We have also two extra mattresses that are OK for children. In Ole's room there is a high level with another 140 cm mattress that could of course be used, but it is very high and therefore not recommended to younger children.
We completely renovated our house in the year 2014 and realised a few projects in the house and garden over the years to make it even better bit by bit. Now it's nearly perfect! ;-) We think our house is ideal for a family that focuses on an idyllic place with good activities for the kids and short distances, but not for people in search of a perfectly luxury holiday site.
We have an old part of the garden with a big apple tree and a new edified part with a terrace. Our new-planted bushes still have to grow a bit, but we are sure they will. We are designing our garden in a nature-orientated way. You can put your car in our carport. There is a trampoline and a playhouse in the garden.
Since May 2019 we have five chickens running through our garden. That means that we can offer you fresh eggs, but also need someone to feed them every day and clean their house.
Last but not least we must warn you: Our TV is a one most of you would laugh about... Hope that this isn't the most important thing for you in your holidays... ;-)
What you will love about this neighborhood
Our house is perfectly situated in a quiet street at the end of the cosy old fishermen's settlement Holm and vis-à-vis of the St. Johannis Monastery, which is said to be the best-preserved medieval monastery in Schleswig-Holstein. Also it is just a five minute walk to the old town of Schleswig. On the other side there is a formerly military used area with new buildings in pseudo Bauhaus style and a nice playground for the children. Next to our house is the beginning of a footpath along the shore of the Schlei. It is just 200 m to the water with a small bathing bay, and if you like, you could use our 4 person canoe (Canadian type). The Schlei is very flat, so it is good for bathing with children.
Schleswig is one of the oldest towns in northern Europe and is located at the End of the 40 km long Baltic Sea fjord Schlei. The Viking age site Haithabu and the medieval fortifications of the Danewerk which just became UNESCO World Heritage sites are only five kilometers from here. Schleswig has a rich cultural heritage with the famous cathedral and Gottorf Palace with important archaeological and arts/cultural history museums. In summer there is a very maritime atmosphere in the city because of the many sailors coming here, and the icecream at the harbour (ten minute walk) is one of the best. The area of the Schlei region is very rural with pretty small villages in a wonderful hilly (glacial) landscape, perfect for extensive bicycle tours. The kids will love the Tolk-Schau which is a small fun park very near to Schleswig.
Schleswig's position in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein is also perfect. It is just a 45 minute ride by car to both the Baltic Sea coast in the East and the North Sea coast with the unique Wadden Sea in the West. Nice towns in the area are: Flensburg, Eckernförde, Kappeln, Arnis, Husum, Friedrichstadt, Tönning, Sønderborg (Denmark). Due to history the Northern part of Schleswig-Holstein has many Danish influences. Via the near motorway you will just need a little more than one hour to arrive Hamburg, and also the famous Hanseatic capital Lübeck could be reached within less than two hours.
People in Schleswig-Holstein are the happiest people in whole Germany. This is due to the wideness of the landscape and the wind. Summers here are sometimes bad (2013), sometimes very good (2014) and sometimes medium (2015). But however - we have wideness and wind and so you'll be happy!
It is a cosy little house with a nice garden.
It is perfectly situated in a pretty small town.
The region is so beautiful and family-friendly.
