Our home is located in a quiet part of Lake Tahoe, the West Shore, very near one of the nicest beaches on the Lake, Meeks Bay. It is perfect for launching excursions and adventures throughout the basin. It abuts the wilderness. The stars at night abound. One can walk out the front door and turn left into the nearby forest and eliminate all sounds made by man, or one can turn right and walk to beautiful Meeks Bay beach, one of the nicest sandy beaches on the Lake. Bike trails, a marina, many trail heads, river rafting, and many interesting and beautiful sites are minutes from the door. The house is a short drive to Tahoe City, a cute town with lots of interesting shops. After a day of adventuring, we like to unwind in the hot tub or have a glass of wine on the deck.
The beach at Meeks Bay is sheltered by the the mountain peaks, and remains warm and placid when other parts of the Lake are cold and battered by large waves. The beach has a marina and offers boat, kayak, paddle board and slip rentals.
Our home is a very functional 3 bedroom, two bath home with a loft, indoor laundry, two car garage, deck, and hot tub. There are small views of the Lake from the living room and deck. The loft, dubbed "club kid," has a separate television, where children can have respite from adults.
In the winter the snow can be deep and an all wheel drive vehicle with mud and snow tires is highly recommended. Homewood Mountain resort is only a 10 minute drive from the house. Homewood is a small ski area, perfect for families with young children. There are several legendary powder runs through the trees for advanced skiers and boarders. Alpine Meadows is a 45 minute drive away. Apres ski by the fireplace and in the hot tub.
Our house is in a small development of houses in "Tahoe Hills," which is just above Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe. The houses are situated with forest around them. It is a 15 minute walk to Meeks Bay beach, or a two minute drive.
The neighborhood is along the rural West Shore of Lake Tahoe. The West Shore is relatively untouched by development. Miles of State Park land surround the area, including D.L. Bliss State Park, Sugar Pine Point State Park, and Emerald Bay State Park. The beach at Meeks Bay is one of the nicest, if not the nicest sandy beach at Lake Tahoe. The reason is that it is sheltered from the afternoon winds.
The West Shore has many access points to the lake, all within a few miles of the house. Bike rentals and a paved biking trail are a 10 minute drive away. People drive all the way around the lake to glimpse from the road the places you will be able to access within five to fifteen minutes of the house. Active people who like to exercise and get outdoors will particularly love the location.
Tahoe City, a cute small town and shopping mecca, is just 12 miles down the road. Tahoe City is also the "put in" point for river rafting. There is a bike trail along the Truckee River.
In winter, skiing and boarding is 10 minutes away at Homewood Mountain Resort and 45 minutes to Alpine Meadows.
