What you will love about this home

**Hello, welcome to our home. Please note the following before sending requests. We are not looking for any overseas swaps in 2022 /23. We are NOT looking for any points swaps apart from the dates below. While we have a few properties listed, Please only send one request, if we can make it work in any other property we will let you know** Our home, built circa 1860, is a magical boutique-style/furnished home, we love it! An old schoolhouse on the stunning and world-famous Isle of Skye. The schoolhouse has original features whilst being fully modernised with all mod cons. Lots of quirky features and brimming with character and was recently a regional finalist on BBC's 'Scotland's Home Of The Year' Bespoke oak and plank furniture, quality carpets (including a made to order, luxurious wool and silk, deep pile carpet in the master bedroom) with an eclectic mix of antiques, curios and art that add to the boutique design. LCD Smart TV with Sky Q (with movies & box sets), also watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, or even just surf the net on a 37' LCD HD screen, We have high-speed broadband too! iPod/iPad/iPhone docking system. We also have a PC you use too! Log & Coal fire (with free logs and coal) and also electric central heating throughout. Master bedroom has an LCD TV with satellite channels (Sky glass). King Size bed, with luxury Hungarian Goose down bedding, pillows & high quality sprung and memory foam mattress with feather topper for a truly luxurious and deep sleep. Second double bedroom with double bed with same bedding and mattress as the master bedroom and garden views. 3rd bedroom with small double, bespoke cabin style bed with secret den and bed underneath! Our Kitchen has just undergone a complete and major renovation and is a totally bespoke design with bespoke designed wooden units all made to order. Original features, antique kitchenalia and some lovely some quirky touches. Hand-cast iron switches and sockets add a retro vintage industrial twist. All mod cons including a dishwasher, a beautiful retro 50's style Gorenje fridge freezer and Smeg appliances add to the quality and underfloor heating provides a lovely even heat. Stunning wood effect porcelain floor tiles and subway metro wall tiles and old stone walls give the kitchen a superb Olde world feel. The kitchen also features a double Belfast sink with garden view, an AGA range master with gas hob and 2 ovens and dual grill is big enough to feed the family with ease. A made to order oak stable door leads from the kitchen into the garden! The kitchen also has a breakfast bar and this is now where we spend most of our time. The Kitchen also has a small TV should you not want to miss your favourite program. Our Bathroom too has just been refitted in a boutique style. Dark grey walls and two-toned chalk painted ceiling. A beautiful Slipper bath looking up to the double void ceiling and the collection of squirrel lamps to aid a soothing candlelit soak or use the stunning concrete directional spot lamps. A separate drench shower tiled with subway/metro tiles. Underfloor heating beneath porcelain wood effect plank tiles and views out over Loch Snizort. Our home is a great place to chill out and or discover all Skye has to offer. Sit by the fire & chill out on the comfy leather sofa’s, watch TV, DVD‘s, read, look out at the garden or out to sea. We have a treehouse in the garden, a great wee playroom, a gazebo with sea and mountain views. We also have a wee Gypsy caravan, genuine, built by gipsies and has been to Appleby Fair....only 3/4 size and is used as child's playhouse Superb location with lovely sea views across Loch Eyre, garden and hills. Garden with beautiful trees and hedgerows. You can lay watching Eagles and buzzards soar overhead. There are numerous benches and tables so you can breakfast/dine in the garden and listen to constant birdsong in the trees, shrubs and hedges. Excellent walks within minutes of the house, chambered cairns, standing stones and walks along the shore up country lanes just literally on the doorstep and world-class walks and climbs just a short distance away. There is an old road nearby where you can safely cycle or walk and beautiful views all the way. Wildlife is everywhere and otters can be seen from the house with the binoculars and telescope we have in the house and gazebo! From the living room window, I watched an otter chasing sheep a couple of weeks ago....not a sight you see very often!! Dolphins, whales, seals, sharks all here to see on the numerous boat trips available and we would be delighted to show you all the best places. We have seen, geese, owls, buzzards and herons in the last week (May) in the garden. Dolphin pods were spotted in the loch this week also and many hundreds around the island with minke whales also spotted this week. The Isle of Skye, deservedly, has the reputation of being the Jewel of the Scottish highlands and once here, you will understand why everyone falls in love with the island. From the Majestic Cuillin Mountains (the finest climbing and walks in the UK), Outdoor ‘wild swimming’ locations such as the fairy pools, bizarre rock formations featured in so many Skye photos and feature films, gentle walks, outdoor pursuits and culture Skye has something for everyone. Boat trips from Elgol will take you right into the heart of the Cuillin Hills for a day exploring, the scenery here is breathtaking and this is a must-do day out, other boat trips from here will take you to Eigg, Rum, Canna and Muck. Boat trips are around the island to see just about every part. We are just minutes drive from the picturesque and bustling fishing port of Portree, capital of Skye, with quality restaurants all shops and banks etc. Here you will find boat trips to see seals, dolphins, puffins and Britain's rarest bird of prey, The White-tailed Sea Eagle. Gift shops selling crafts from near and far. Sheepskin rugs to Harris Tweed. Skye was voted 4th best Island destination (in the world) by National Geographic Magazine. An ideal destination for all outdoor types, nature lovers or anyone just wanting a romantic place to chill out. Skye wins accolade after accolade for scenery, romance and culture its ferry journeys and arrival by train. Skye is now also a big hit with ‘foodies‘. We have some of the worlds best restaurants with the award-winning 3 Chimneys restaurant, Lady Claire’s, Michelin Starred Kinloch Lodge and our personal favourite, The Duisdale. Quality fresh seafood is everywhere, served however you like, mussels, langoustines, lobster, all varieties of local fish, its food heaven….. Wildlife is in abundance Eagles, seals, dolphins, whales, basking sharks, puffins, sea eagles, all fairly common. Standing stones and chambered cairns just as said, minutes walk away from the property. Castles, distilleries, art galleries abound everywhere. Rich flora, fauna and scenery regularly attract Hollywood’s largest directors and actors (Ridley Scot last month filming Prometheus). Previous Movies filmed on Skye recently, Harry Potter, Stardust, Made of Honour. Even Harry Styles lastest music video was filmed on Skye recently. Outdoor pursuits include, Kayaking, Mountain climbing (we can arrange experienced guides to take you, even if you have no experience) Walking, Sailing, Boat trips, Windsurfing, Mountain Biking, Skye is getting a name for great bike tracks and the Track at Sligachan is award-winning. Danny MacAskill (inspired bicycles) hails from Skye. Fishing (Skye has fabulous trout and salmon fishing many just minutes away and you can charter boats to take right out to sea and maybe even catch a shark!) There are great outdoor centres with loads more activities. Castles & culture, Dunvegan Castle, Eilean Donan Castle, Armadale, Moil, Duntulm, Dunsgaith, There are dozens, from ruins to still inhabited. Art galleries, museums, centres, crofting, the way of life is just a pleasure to watch and become involved in. Writers and artists flock here for inspiration from Sir Walter Scott, Boswell and Johnson to modern-day scriptwriters. Despite what you may think Skye is relatively easy to access by car, plane, or train, we can help with any advice or even recommended places to stopover on the way here. We are always looking for a long weekend or a few days, in Scotland and the rest of the UK, Edinburgh is a favourite place of ours but so is Perthshire, we love both city breaks rural retreats. So please get in touch or if you are interested we are always open to ideas, please let us know, our swaps do not always have to be sequential. We also have an apartment in the Isle of Lewis (see listing) that we can swap also. We are happy to consider hospitality swaps also (ie you come and stay with us) Happy to do get a 'balloon' should you want to do that.

What you will love about this neighborhood

Our home is in a rural crofting township though only minutes from Portree, the Islands capital. We have fabulous neighbours it is a very friendly wee village and we are just a minutes walk from the sea and brilliant shingle beach which is great for walking and wildlife spotting including otters. We have neighbours that exercise their horses on this beach and it's wonderful to see them running across the beach from our house. Chambered cairns and standing stones are only a few minutes walk away. Buzzards and Eagles circle overhead, daily, woodpeckers, owls and hosts of other birds visit the garden and the owl adds a comforting eeriness as it hoots during the evenings! Great central location offering access to our beautiful Island and all it has to offer!
