Santa Barbara is a special city nestled between the mountains and beach. Our home is cozy and quiet, and there is so much to do right in town! The mountain trails, beach, and downtown Santa Barbara are all within a 10-minute drive. Behind our home there is a flat 7-mile bike path that goes to UCSB (University). We are a 10-minute walk from the More Mesa field and bluffs (a beautiful sea-view trail for walking and jogging to the beach). This beach is only accessible by foot which makes it special — at low tide, you are guaranteed to find kilometers of beach to yourself! You can walk south on the beach for almost two hours and only meet significant numbers of people at the coastal access points, where there are nice restaurants too. Our home is in a quiet residential neighborhood, but still has a grocery store, drug store, and restaurants less than 1 mile away, and downtown Santa Barbara with its wonderful shopping area, marina, and the big pier is a 10-minute drive away. This is our residence and not our vacation home, and it is fully equipped. Our home has three bedrooms. The house has a pleasant covered patio with a teak patio dining set and a hot tub under the banana plants and the stars. The climate here is very dry and sunny, with cool nights and early mornings. The pros of that are obvious, and the cons are that part of the year the green grass you see in our back yard photos is completely brown. We water our fruit trees and veggie gardens in the dry seasons, but we don’t feel it’s responsible to water the grass. We have a young medium-sized short-haired dog named Olita who was rescued in Mexico (who can go stay with friends during exchanges), and a cat with cattitude named Charlotte. We also have chickens! We hope home exchangers would want to take care of Charlotte and the hens and enjoy the fresh eggs. Their entertainment value is much higher than the level of care they need :0). Our old shepherd mix Oscar died in Feb ‘21, but he might still be in some of the photos of our listing. For short stays, last-minute stays and for non-simultaneous exchanges with one couple, the easiest for us is to make part of our main house available: one 13’x14’ master bedroom with a king-size bed, one 11’ by 11’ bedroom/office with an XL twin bed, the larger bathroom, the kitchen/dining/living area, and of course the backyard with covered patio and hot tub. My husband and I and any others could then stay in the other part of the house, including side kitchen, our guest bedroom +bath + office. We would give you the utmost privacy! If we agree on this type of arrangement, where you have the use of most of our home but not all of it, we do not offer a reduction in points. We figure your “plus” is that we make the main part of our home available to you, during a time when finding a nice quiet, affordable place in Santa Barbara would otherwise not be possible. An example is during summer, the weekends, and holidays.

Santa Barbara has a great sunny, dry climate year-round, with an ocean breeze to keep it from getting too hot. We have many beaches here, and a beautiful downtown with lots of nice restaurants, shops, and places to sit and people-watch. There are also great hiking trails in the hills behind Santa Barbara, and many golf courses. Less than an hour away is the Solvang/Santa Ynez Valley. This is a great area for wine tasting. Los Angeles is a 90-minute drive from here, with Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood, the Getty Museum, etc. You can also go to the Channel Islands from here, for superb scuba diving.

It’s a lot of work to prepare our home for guests, so sometimes we’re not up for short stays. Our place, in sum: great climate all year, near beaches & hiking 10-min drive to beaches, downtown, marina. 20-min walk to a gorgeous beach, right on a bike path Quiet safe neighborhood, great back yard with covered patio, hot tub 10-minute drive to Santa Barbara airport, with direct flights to LAX, San Francisco, Denver, Phoenix, Seattle, San Diego, and more.
