What you will love about this home

Sorry, but at this time we are only interested in non-simultaneous exchanges and cannot accept any more Guest Points. Thanks for your understanding. Our well equipped and comfortable lakeside lodge is in Chester Grant, about 50 minutes from Halifax and just 15 minutes inland from the lovely seaside town of Chester. Chester has two large grocery stores, pubs, restaurants, shops, and a summer playhouse theatre. Located beside beautiful Millet Lake, the cottage is the last one on a short, well maintained dead end road, ensuring privacy in natural surroundings. It is very clean and comfortable and has a large open plan main floor with a pleasant sitting room with woodstove and high cathedral ceilings with skylights. We have maintained that Canadian lodge atmosphere with moose antlers and lobster traps, while providing modern conveniences. The main floor has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other small one with a double bed. A sleeping loft provides a double and twin bed in private cubicles, a table for board games and small sitting area. We have an air conditioner if there is the rare hot day and electric heat and a wood burning stove for cool ones - but our summers in Nova Scotia are usually very comfortable with cooler evenings. The bathroom has a shower and a combination washer/dryer. Most folks prefer the hot outdoor shower under the trees. A large, two level deck provides lots of room for lounging, eating and barbecuing, and a great screened porch for sitting in the shade or dining on cooler days. Satellite TV provides lots of English and French channels and a cellular Hub internet data connection is provided so you can keep in touch with family and friends. (Hi speed Internet is supposed to be on our road by summer 2022) Millet Lake is clean and deep, with great swimming (much warmer than the ocean!) and kayaking and lots of wildlife and birds. Ospreys, bald eagles, and kingfishers are frequently seen and our resident loons will swim quite close and serenade you nightly. Kayak up the brook and sometimes see beavers or mink and herons fishing. Our favourite pastime is sitting on the shore and looking at the thousands of stars without the interference of city lights.

What you will love about this neighborhood

Our cottage is in an ideal central location for exploring Nova Scotia's South Shore and is a few minutes from Chester for shopping, dining and golf, and 30 minutes to the villages of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg for seaside culture and history and a great Fisheries Museum with aquarium. See the home of the sailing schooner Bluenose. We are located about 60 minutes from central Halifax and it is an easy commute for the day on great highways. Forty five minutes will also take you across the province to the beautiful Annapolis Valley, the agriculture heartland of Nova Scotia, where a drive up over the hills will let you experience the highest tides in the world on the Bay of Fundy. Our family’s favourite excursion from the cottage was a short drive to Ross Farm, a provincial living history museum with blacksmith, barrel making, farm animals and lots of activities and wagon rides. Chester has a beautiful and reasonably priced seaside golf course, with a great restaurant open to the public.

other

Located amid giant pines, our cottage is only 15 minutes from the village of Chester and the Atlantic Shore. An hour the other way and you are visiting the Annapolis Valley and the highest tides in the world on the Bay of Fundy. Beautiful quiet location with a variety of birds and wildlife and huge pine trees whispering in the wind. Three kayaks, an aluminum rowboat and life jackets are available at waters edge. Excellent swimming, large sunny outdoor decks in the trees and a screened porch. Regrettably we have no equipment for very small children, so for safety reasons we will not be able to host little ones under 4 years. Your older children will love it here. The entire main floor with living, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and bathroom, screened porch and outside deck is accessible with a maximum of two steps for those with limited mobility.
