What you will love about this home
Our cottage by the sea is located in the little village of Bayswater. We're located about 45 miles south of metropolitan Halifax. A 5 minute stroll from our door and you're on a beautiful sandy beach with great swimming.
The road that hugs the coastline past our home is called the lighthouse route. From our village you can see three of these lighthouses. Experience the moon sparkling across the cove from your bed at night. Listen to the surf rolling up on the beach.
Golfing and excellent restaurants are within a 30 minute drive. Or you could dine in our gazebo on the hill behind our home. This vantage point overlooks a panoramic view of our coastline as well as a freshwater lake and forest. We can't say more about this well-kept secret or too many people would want live here and spoil the experience.
What you will love about this neighborhood
The area still has fishing villages with men who make their living fishing in the summer and lobstering in the winter. There is`a small restaurant nearby that makes delicious seafood chowder, homemade bread and desserts. There are many summer people now who enjoy the slower pace, including artists, authors and musicians. People are very friendly and helpful to strangers. Bicycle clubs pedal this route. We are 45 minutes from Halifax which is a very cosmopolitan city with many clubs, restaurants and entertainment. It has a historic waterfront with interesting museums and shops. There are several universities that attract students the world over. Nova Scotia, itself, consists of some French speaking villages and then on Cape Breton Island there are towns with a strong Scottish influence with lots of musical venues with a Gaelic overtone.
The nearby picturesque village of Chester is home to sailboat races with people coming from all over the world. A ferry will take you over to Tancook Island to picnic or stroll (a 30 minute ride). About 45 minutes south is the town of Lunenburg which is a national historic site. It is noted for its ship building and fishing fleet. The famous sailing ship, "the Bluenose" and "the Bounty" from the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" were built there. you'll find a wonderful Maritime Museum on the waterfront and boats to tour.
For us it has always been the perfect escape from our busy work world days.
It's only a 5 minute walk to the sandy beach the locals are so friendly.
We love to enjoy BBQs on the gazebo overlooking the ocean below.
