We are just back from our wonderful exchange in Costa ...

We are just back from our wonderful exchange in Costa Bellena. We spent 16 nights in this beautiful resort. The apartment was perfect for my family which consisted of my husband, two teenage children and I. The apartment was fully equipped as your own house would be with dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and most importantly two bathrooms. Everything was spotless and we could see the family had spent time preparing for our visit. The apartment was on the first floor with a lift just outside the door. The apartment complex was very quiet and family orientated. The level of garden maintenance was impressive with beautifully manicured lawns, shrubs and flowers. There were two big pools and they were possibly the cleanest pools we were ever in. The pools were never crowded and on occasion we had the pool to ourselves. The pools opened from 11am until 9pm except for two hours where they respect people in nearby apartments who take a siesta during the day. We also swapped cars and had use of their big Renault Espace and this was kept in the underground car park so was always cool. We also borrowed the families bikes and beach equipment. The beautiful beach was a ten minute stroll from the apartment. There was always a lovely breeze so we were never too hot. We were kept entertained watching the wind and kite surfers. The sea was lovely and warm and the waves were great fun. In the afternoon some people would arrive carrying tables with boxes of delicious patisseries. Despite our best intentions we could never resist them. We visited the beautiful beach of Conil and ate on the edge of the beach in a beautiful tavern. We also visited Bolonia beach which has wonderful Roman ruins literally behind the beach. These are the most complete Roman ruins in Spain. Well worth a visit. Costa Bellena is close to the towns of Puerto de la Santa Maria, Chipiona and Sanlucar. All very old towns with narrow streets and lots of traditional Spanish restaurants and shops. We were lucky enough to arrive in Puerto de la Santa Maria the night of the festival of La Virgen del Carmen on the 16th of July. Her image (statue) is taken from the local Church, carried into the sea on board a fishing boat, and then paraded around the town. What an amazing experience for us. With two teenagers in the family we also did some shopping. About a half hour away is a big shopping centre on the outskirts of Jerez. There is no Decathlon shop in Ireland so we spent quite a while there. Also a very big shopping Mall right next door to this. This was Jorge and Angeles first exchange and they were great hosts. It is a pity we never got to meet them but their neighbour was available to us at all times for whatever we needed. Jorge was also available on whatsApp and we chatted quite a few nights during the holiday and shared holidays photos. Good fun. We arrived back in Ireland to a spotless house and would highly recommend you to exchange houses with this lovely family.
