This was our first home exchange and it was a great experience. The house is located in the absolutely best part of Bend, a block from Drake Park and the fabulous Deschutes River with all its wonderful trails. March was too early to play on the river, but walking the riverside trails is wonderful in the crisp, sunny afternoons. A short walk from the house through the lovely neighborhood gets you to downtown Bend for restaurants, pubs, shops, theater, art galleries, museum, etc. The house is very comfortable with all the necessities and nice style. The gas stoves in the living room and upstairs were very welcome on chilly days. The solarium, with another gas stove, is a delightful space for sitting comfortably inside while enjoying a feeling of the outdoors. Added bonuses were the deer that visited the front yard and the flowers poking up in the back garden through the occasional dusting of snow. Linda and Kevin are experienced home exchangers and know how to provide all the comforts and make their guests feel welcome.

What we said about Penny and Lloyd's house:

We had an absolutely fabulous time in Anchorage, in March. We skied (nordic and downhill) and hiked almost every day. The weather was sunny most days, temps were moderate, low's in the teens, highs mid 30's. Plenty of day light. For the winter enthusiast, we really recommend March. Penny and Lloyd are great exchange partners. Easy to communicate with and coordinate with. They are exceptionally generous and kind. We would do another exchange with them without question. Their house is very conveniently located for winter recreation. Their house is very clean and in good repair. Home documentation was clear and helpful. Beautiful house set in a natural, wooded setting. Very comfortable. Kevin and Linda Bend, Oregon

I wish I could have met my hosts, but communicating with Linda was a close second. I found her house very comfortable and the kitchen is a dream.I love to cook , so her dishes and the equipment were ausom. You enter a paradise when you exit the house,so peaceful, so friendly and so inviting to explore on foot,on boat or on a bicycle, or simply sit outside and read or just watch the park and the river with it's activities. The area around Bend is very pretty too. I smile when I look at the pictures taken,I had such a good time. Julia

What we said about julia's house:

There are two parts to an exchange (we have done 20 of them). The first is how was the house, the second is how was the guest in your house. I wasn't sure what to expect in going to Czech Republic on a cycling vacation. It was absolutely wonderful. Mala Skala is a very cute, safe, fun, and breath taking place to be. We biked down tiny roads and up to castles and through farms and forests. What could be better. The house itself is in the middle of town so we could walk to coffee, walk to a small store, eat at a few restaurants, go for a swim ... meanwhile still feel as if we were in the country side. (It's a on odd combination to hear tennis balls from the local tennis court combined with sheep!) The Czech people are SUPER friendly, everything was cheap (ok except gas). The house itself is absolutely stunning .... full of art, plants, and books. She has a very fully stocked kitchen which I enjoyed completely as I love to cook. The gardener picked us up at the airport and was always around to help us out. (He doesn't speak much English so he even brought over his daughter to make sure we got back to the airport in time to meet our flight back to the US!) GOLD STAR ..... if you get the chance to go to this house, you are VERY lucky. Now, as for Julia in my house. Julia likes to read books which always makes me laugh because these are the best house swappers to have. She loves gardening (which was evident in her house) so she did a great job at taking care of my plants and my house. I came back to a super clean house. It's a shame we didn't get to meet because I am sure she's a super person.

I have stayed in Bend,OR, USA in Kevin and Linda's house.I am very glad I did.I loved the house, the tasteful interior, the serene surrounding and yet across the street ,the park so vibrant, so full of life. I prefer places where you can walk to restaurants,to bars, where there are summer festivals with music, farmers markets and of course the eternal Shakespeare. We swam in all the surrounding lakes and visited Crater Lake and walked many trails. Thank you , for the lovely summer,it was a real treat.Julia and Andy
