- Gary Dentist (58)
- Sheryl Nurse (57)
Hello from Portland, Oregon USA
My name is Gary and my wife is Sheryl. I am a dentist and my wife is a nurse. We both work part time in Portland, Oregon. We both has many interests which include: photography, biking, hiking, kayaking, travel, birding, woodworking, knitting, music and lifetime learning. We have one dog family member (a sheltie named Molly).
We are especially passionate about contributing to our community and respecting our environment. We are both very committed vegans. Eating a vegan diet is not just about contributing to our health, but is also about, respect for animals and our planet.
We stay very busy with our hobbies of: wood working, photography, hiking, kayaking, travel, volunteering, and cycling.
We had a wonderful time staying at Nancy's home in Cambria. Nancy was very helpful in planning our stay at her home. She left excellent instructions in her home to help us with our stay. Her home is very comfortable, clean and relaxing. It is located in a beautiful area in Cambria. We highly recommend this home. This was our first home exchange and Nancy made it a great experience.
We very much enjoyed our exchange with Gary and Sheryl. Manzanita is a very family friendly beach community away from the busy highway 101. The local beach is just a short walk from the house and is vast! The state park to the south enhances the open feeling of the area. There are other nearby beaches and hikes to the north and south. Bicycle riding in the Manzanita and surrounding area was great. The house is very clean and well appointed for vacation use. It is located in the trees, which is a nice respite from the afternoon winds at the beach. There's a large south facing deck which is a great place to read, grill or just hang out. The house can fit six people comfortably. Gary and Sheryl took great care of our house during the exchange. We look forward to working out similar exchanges with them in the future.
Gary & Sheryl requested an exchange with us back in Spring 2014. Our daughter recently moved to Portland, so we actually exchanged our home for the Martel's Portland home rather than their vacation home at the beach. The Martels were awesome hosts to us and went far out of their way to provide detailed information about their very beautiful and well appointed home. They even left us a vegan baked treat (very delicious chocolate muffins) to welcome us for our stay. The extra special element to the exchange was the inclusion of our respective pets. They took care of our loving and affectionate cat, Lina, and we temporarily adopted their attentive, friendly, and care-taking sheltie dog, Molly. Being Molly's foster parents for two weeks was probably a bigger treat for us than for Molly. She is perfectly trained, a truly attentive companion, and pretty low maintenance - able to stay home alone (given proper preparation for her projected needs) for up to 10 hours and happy to accompany us on local adventures. During the exchange, we and the Martels regularly kept in touch regarding small questions on our respective homes, cars, and pets - quickly resolving any unanticipated challenges. We are VERY appreciative that Gary & Sheryl reached out to us for this perfect exchange!
