Greetings from the Emerald Isle. Happy to hear from you if you are thinking of a holiday in Ireland.
Ivan, Arlene, Lauryn and Ally (45, 42, 13, 10 yrs old) really enjoy our home in Riverstown. Our neighbours on either side are both friendly, helpful couples with young children. They will look after our pets during exchanges if you would prefer that. Our girls are at school so our exchanges are restricted to school holidays. Arlene and I work full time so really appreciate our holiday time. We have visited New England in the USA, Canada and much of Western Europe with France, Germany and Italy being our favourites over the years.
Arlene is a director working with the Department of Education. I am a Director of Information Systems working in the health service.
Our ideal holiday includes a combination of a pleasant climate, nice scenery with interesting surroundings for walking and cycling.
Our Summer 2013 exchange in Belgium was really enjoyable. The beautiful home is on a quiet street with a large garden with an excellent view. The area Chaumont-Gistoux is pretty and well located centrally for exploring Belgium. We included day trips to Brussels, Dinant, Namur, the Ardennes and to Monschau in Germany. Between the day trips we had days off and relaxed in the garden and went to the markets in the nearby town of Wavre. Highlights included the pool and the patio area in the home, the local boulangerie which is excellent, and walks on the quiet, picturesque roads. Our girls particularly enjoyed looking after Kiwi and Framboise the family cats and for the first time we found cats who actually seem to enjoy home exchanges! We had the use of the family car, internet and bicycles which all added to our holiday. Frederic, Christelle, Valentin and Hugo were very helpful and friendly throughout the exchange and they also took great care of our home, car and pets for us. We fully recommend an exchange with them.
We spent two wonderful weeks in Ireland and even the weather was good! The house of Arlene and Ivan in Riverstown is gorgeous, huge, very well and tasty furnitured, with a designer's kitchen and all conveniences you need. It has the longest backyard I have ever seen, including beautiful flowers, own tennis court, lots of toys and very nice neighbour kids to play with.In daytrips within short driving distances we visited lots of famous sights like Newgrange, Hills of Tara, Trim castle, Wiklow mountains, Belfast and Dublin, of course. We found lovely sandy beaches within a fifteen minutes drive. The family is very nice and well organized and it was a pleasure to email with Ivan. Our exchange included also our cars and the car exchange on the airports was perfectly arranged. We found our house, garden, car and cat in perfect condition and fully recommend an exchange with Arlene and Ivan. Any time again!
Our Summer 2009 exchange with Christiane and Tom was great. Grassau is a beautiful Bavarian town with a good choice of places to eat and shops to browse. Their home is on a quiet street so our two young girls were able to cycle and play outside themselves. We regularly cycled into Grassau for ice-cream and into the countryside, and we cooled down with evening swims, one of the girls favourite activities, in the Chiemsee as the sun set across it.Lovely days out from Grassau included the Eagles Nest (Hitlers tea house), Salzburg (Mozart and Sound of Music), Hofenwerfen Castle (Where Eagles Dare), St Johann and Kitzbuhel ski resort towns, kids play parks, mountain hikes, King Ludwigs palace on Chiemsee, boat trip on unique Konigsee and Dachau concentration camp. Christianes and Toms home is pretty, full of Bavarian character and also comfortable with all modern conveniences. We enjoyed eating outside and relaxing on their lovely verandah on many sunny mornings and evenings. Their children, Sofie and Killian, left many toys for our two girls which gave them hours of fun. Christiane and Tom were very helpful and friendly throughout the setting-up of the exchange, and they also took great care of our home and car for us. We fully recommend an exchange with them.
We are just home from an excellent exchange beside Toulouse in the home of Philippe and Godeleine. It was a real privilege to stay in their home which is full of character, comfort and beauty. Even though the home is very old, it has been refurbished, is presented beautifully and has modern comforts, e.g. with one of the best power showers we have experienced anywhere! Philippe and Godeleine arranged for access to the local tennis court which we enjoyed. They also arranged for their friends to show us around the home and get us settled. We travelled to Toulouse, Carcassone and Albi etc. and they are all special places to visit. Our car, home and pets were looked after meticulously by Philippe, Godeleine and their two daughters. We highly recommend an exchange with them and look forward to keeping in touch with them in future.
Our home exchange with the McConkey family was a fantastic experience and a must for others considering an exchange in Ireland. From start to finish everything went smoothly in organising the exchange. From the moment we entered their house we felt at home. Everything was sparkling clean, tidy, well organised and with a lot of charm. Kids can be entertained with the numerous amount of toys and games that Lauryn and Ally have. The state offers a large garden with fruit trees, vegetables and you are able to have fresh eggs on a daily bases from the chickens they have. We enjoyed barbequing on their patio when the weather permitted. Their home is within easy reach of the Dublin area and the rest of Ireland. We enjoyed the scenery , the landscape on daily trips throughout the area plus the shopping and restaurants. We were provided with a large selection of brochures on things to see and do in Ireland. We highly recommend doing an exchange with the McConkey family and you will not be disappointed.
Our Summer 2012 exchange with Therese, Kenny, Joana, Alina and Robin was one of our most enjoyable so far. The home is on a quiet street with a large garden with a view over the village of Butzberg. It has lots of character with three levels and also a basement. Patio doors from the kitchen / living room lead to a patio and dining area. All modern conveniences are included and everything is well looked after and organised. The home has views over the Jura mountains to the North and beautiful views over the alps to the south on a clear day. Butzberg is a pretty Swiss village well located for exploring most of the country. Indeed, we also included trips into the Alsace wine region in France and into Freiberg and the Black Forest region in Germany. Lovely days out in Switzerland included a hike overlooking Lake Biel, the Pilatus Golden Roundtrip at Luzern, shopping in the capital Bern, Ballenberg / Interlaken, Swiss cheese factory tour, a hike above Grindlewald. One of the highlights was a hike on the Lauberhorn from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen with great views of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau all the way. Between the day trips we had days off and relaxed in the garden, fed goats and deer at a local park and went to a nearby town Solothorn for ice cream on the banks of the river Aare or swimming at one of the local outdoor pools. Therese, Kenny and their kids were very helpful and friendly throughout the setting-up and the exchange itself, and they also took great care of our home and car for us. We fully recommend an exchange with Therese, Kenny and family.
We had a great time there. The house is very large and confortable. The fitted kitchen is completely new and beautifuly designed, and Claire loved cooking here! In the middle of the countryside, but not far from Dublin, it is idealy located and we had lots to see around. Don't forget your raincoat...
We exchanged with Arnaud and Claire in Dusseldorf (August 08) and had a great holiday. Their house is in a great location for spending time in the city and as a base for exploring in Germany and the Netherlands. Dusseldorf is a lovely city with a very pleasant climate and centre for shopping, eating and sightseeing. Claire and Arnaud's home is full of character with antique furniture but also includes all modern appliances for laundry and entertainment etc. The bathroom and living areas are great features. Our two young girls, Lauryn and Ally also really enjoyed the exchange and especially as they could play with lots of toys in Claire and Arnaud's house. We highly recommend an exchange with Arnaud and Claire.
What a wonderful holiday we had in Dublin! The house was immaculate on our arrival and the grounds peaceful and lovely. The home is in a beautiful setting and we felt very much at home. A very thorough guide listing house instructions, directions, restaurant recommendations, and places of interest was provided which made our stay easy. In addition, the McConkey family arranged for us to have access to their health club facility which had a beautiful pool. We highly recommend an exchange with the McConkey's.
Our Boston 2010 exchange with the Bongiorno family worked out exceptionally well. The family home is lovely - large, full of character, in excellent condition and very comfortable to live in. It was a pleasure to agree the details of the exchange and discuss holiday plans with Janet and her family in the period before the swap. For the exchange itself the home was very well prepared for us with a detailed guide so that we were able to relax and feel at home as soon as we arrived. As a holiday destination, the home is convenient for Boston city and also as a base for easy day trips which for us included Chatham in Cape Cod, Falls River, Plymouth Plantation, Wrentham outlet shopping, whale watching, Boston Duck Tour and the New England Aquarium. Our two girls also enjoyed paddling and swimming in Houghton Pond, Carson beach and in the small pool at the house which Janet had recommended for dealing with the New England heat. We fully recommend the Bongiorno family for a home exchange. Our home and car were looked after very carefully and returned to us in perfect condition.
This year we did our first exchange. We were very eager to leave, but also very worried. We did our exchange with Arlene and Ivan over New Year 09/10. Ivan led us very well arranging our journey, the mail exchange was easy and nice, our first exchange was very beautiful. Arlene's and Ivan's house is really very beautiful, big, smart, full of comforts, we immediately felt at home! Our sons enjoyed very much, they enjoyed their wide garden, even if it was so cold and they played a lot with Lauryn's and Ally's toys. The area where Ivan and Arlene live is very evocative and next to a lot of important places. We went to Newgrange, Drogheda, we went and saw a wonderful beach, we went to the Wiklow mountains, where we saw the Waterwall, fantastic!! We went to Dublin twice, to visit it and for shopping, we visited Navan and Ashbourne. When we came back at home, very cold, we lighted the fireplace and we were happy! We recommend you an exchange with Arlene and Ivan. It will be an unforgettable holiday , Ivan and Arlene are two precious friends!! Laura, Alessandro, Davide, Edoardo, Elia
We exchanged with Laura and Alessandro over New Year 09/10 and really enjoyed ourselves. For us this was a city break exchange but Milan would also serve as a good base for a summer exchange to include Milan and the Northern Lakes. The trip to see Da Vinci's Last Supper was excellent and one of the highlights. This must be pre-booked and Laura was very helpful to organise this trip for us. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is the most prestigious shopping centre in Italy and for good reason. With Christmas lighting it along with Piazza Duomo, Piazza la Scala were great. The atmosphere in these and the other main shopping areas was very pleasant. The house itself is very comfortable with all modern conveniences for washing, eating and entertainment. It is full of character and living there gives an authentic Italian experience. Our girls loved their bedroom and also watching DVDs on the widescreen in the living room. The house is convenient for the Metro which is a very efficient service and makes Milan easy to get around. Laura and her family were very helpful all the way through the preparation and the exchange itself. A detailed exchange guide was provided to assist us in their home and helping us have a good holiday. Our house was returned to us in perfect condition and we hope to keep in touch in the years ahead. We fully recommend an exchange with Laura and Ale. Ivan, Arlene, Lauryn and Ally.
We just completed our Exchange with Ivan, Arlene, Lauryn & Abby. It was an absolute pleasure. Their home is gorgeous on a beautiful property with Tennis court, 2 storey playhouse, as well as geese, hens, ducks & rabbits that our children had so much fun learning to take car of. Ivan made our 1st exchange such a enjoyable experience. A very helpful & detailed guide of the house, area, restaurants & nearby experiences was awaiting our arrival. Our children loved the girls rooms and toys, and also the very friendly & helpful neighbours that we now consider great friends. A wonderful time in Ireland, their home is in the countryside but a short drive to Dublin & many many wonderful sites. We had the most wonderful time & thank Ivan & Arlene for all their patience and help. They really were fantastic and the exchange was everything we'd hoped for and more. Anytime you are in Canada again, you are most welcome here. - Dan, Rachel & the girls.
Our Toronto 2010 exchange with the Plowman family worked out exceptionally well. The family home has every convenience and luxury with the pool area and basement cinema being particularly enjoyable. Dan and Rachel were extremely helpful, picking us up at the airport and showing us around their home. They also kindly exchanged their beautiful car with us and the integrated DVD player meant that we never heard are we there yet even once!!! Luxury in all respects. The nearby family and neighbours introduced themselves, provided information and offered any assistance throughout our holiday. Lovely, helpful, friendly people. As a holiday destination, the home is convenient for Toronto city and also as a base for trips which for us included Muskoka Lake, Cottage Country, Canada Wonderland, Toronto Zoo, beaches on lake Ontario, Niagara falls, Niagara-on-the-lake and of course outlet shopping near Buffalo, USA. We fully recommend an exchange with Dan, Rachel, Olivia, Violet and Ivy
Beautiful home, beautiful location, but most of all beautiful people. From the moment we arrived to when we left, Arlene and Ivan and their two lovely daughters could not do enough for us. They went out of their way to make us feel like honored guests. Their home is located a little north of Dublin and it is very easy to get into the city either by bus or by driving. And Dublin is a very special place. Also, County Meath has many historic and pre-historic sites that are wonderful to visit. It would be impossible to recommend the McConkeys and their home too highly. We had a great time there. We have completed 17 exchanges so far and this one has just moved to the top of our list. And if you are fortunate enough to do an exchange with them -- wait until you see their kitchen. It is magnificent!
New York, New York! Boyd and Lynn came to Ireland in June 2011, the first leg of a non-simultaneous exchange. In July 2014, we were finally able to get back over to the USA to complete the exchange. It was worth waiting for, because we are just home and have had a great time. The beautiful home is located on Antler Lake and we spent hours there together with our kids kayaking, canoeing, swimming and sunbathing. Boyd and Lynn's grandsons were great with our girls teaching them to kayak and canoe. Our girls loved this time. We included day trips to Lake Placid and to the top of Whiteface mountain in the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks. However, it was so pleasant and idyllic around the home and lake that our plans for daily hiking and touring were quickly rearranged. We did manage regular early morning walks along the Hudson River in the nearby village of North Creek. In addition, we had traditional American breakfasts in this village in Marsha's and Sarah's restaurants. We particularly enjoyed dinner with Boyd and Lynn in the Boathouse restaurant on the shores of Lake George followed by ice cream in Martha's. However, none of these restaurants even came close to equalling Boyd's lemon, shrimp and pasta dish on our last night in the Adirondacks, thanks Boyd! We fully recommend an exchange with Boyd and Lynn and wish to thank them for a most memorable and enjoyable holiday.
We have now completed our first home-exchange, with McConkeys, in Ireland, Meath county. It was very interesting two weeks in their beatiful home and beautiful Ireland with friendly people. We enjoyed very much the private tennis court and the bascet case. The backyard was long enough for running and other physical activities for our sporting teenagers which was appreciated. The fresh vegetables from own garden was nice, and the garden itself was beautiful with lots of Lovely flowers. We made some bus trips to Dublin, quite convenient to reach by parking the car at the bus stop nearby and 50 minutes by bus to the city center. We also made a two-day-trip to west-cost, visiting Dingle and Ring of Kerry, highly to recommend, magnificant nature, though very narrow roads, add to driving on the left side, you should be careful on those streets! Nearby home there´s a lot to see and do, old historiacal sites, we went to Newgrange and Knowth and the Hill of Tara, we also Went karting having a lot of fun. McConkeys were very helpful in all possible ways helping us to make our first Exchange as good as possible, they also left us a perfectly cleaned home to come to, as well their own as they did ours when it was time to come home again. We can highly recommend a home Exchange with McConkeys! Thank You Ivan, Arlene, Lauryn and Ally!
