Dublin, Ireland - Our home is perfect for you!
We're a family of four... Victor is a writer and actor. Fiona is a Real Estate agent as well as being a busy Mom! We have two children, both well travelled and very very respectful. Cameron (12) who is a future Barcelona soccer star and Isabella (10) who has her sights set on Law in California, fingers crossed she remains focused.
Our home represents who we are... fun, relaxed but also spotlessly clean and comfortable! We are Non-smokers. We have done 3 previous exchanges! We love to travel and if you are near water, get in touch with us. We have an opportunity to travel to California for a few months during summer of 2015. If you are interested in an exchange of any length please get in touch.
We live in a quite little neighborhood located about 10 minute drive, 35 Mins walk from Dublin city. We literally have the city on our door step. There is no need for a car to get about, with over 15 different bus routes located minutes from our home you can get in and out of the city and other suburbs in no time. We are located directly opposite the historical church of St Mary's and ancient graveyard. There are many pubs and places to eat locally in the little village nearby. Dublin city and its surrounding neighborhoods are also steeped with history, there is so much to explore and do here and it's all within easy reach of our home. Some attractions nearby include: The Phoenix park, home to our President and Europe's largest walled park is roughly 2.5 miles from us. Less than 2 miles from us you will find amazing sites such as Irish Museum of Modern Art, the historical Kilmainham Jail and The Jameson Distillery and of course The Guinness Storehouse! Check out www.visitdublin.ie for more information on sightseeing and things to do in Dulbin.
After a long day filled with activities, we love nothing more than heading to the beach for a walk, just before the sun sets. In Ireland we are about a 10-15 minute drive to one of our favorite beaches. In winter, we bring some hot chocolate and ramble along the shore, it's such a great end to the day, rain, hail or shine!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Dublin! The Burke's are a lovely family with a beautifully decorated, yet comfortable home. There were all the comforts of home, a wonderful kitchen to cook and bake, a delicious Nespresso machine for coffee, great rooms to sit and read, or gaze out the window at the activity outside. There are greens for the kids to play soccer and run around just down and across the road. The bus is steps outside the front door, and will get you into the City Centre within 20-30 minutes depending on the bus line. There are several that come often throughout the day. The village near the house is also adorable with a butcher, fresh fruit and veggie stand, bakery, and of course pubs. Although our favorite pubs were all in town, there is one walking distance, near the roundabout that is great for a family meal and a few pints for mom and dad, called the Kestrel Inn. The other ones in the village don't allow the kids in the actual pub, and weren't nearly as fun and lively. We highly recommend an exchange with this family. We are sad that the country cottage wasn't available when we had ours! :( Fiona is extremely helpful, and thorough, and we were in communication throughout our trip whenever we needed help with the house or area. They also have family in the neighborhood which was a great resource for questions, and for a new friend for my son! There were a few things that we should note: The streets are busy if you're crossing the road, be cautious! Laundry takes forever to do a cycle... (we're used to heat dryers) and there wasn't enough hot water for us most of the time, but I think we may have been doing something wrong. Ask Fiona for instructions on the hot water. (it was summertime for us, so a brisk shower wasn't too much a bother to worry about!)
