Hello from Manhattan's beautiful Upper West Side neighborhood right near Central Park!!
First, I want to say that we consider home exchanging much much more than only finding a place to stay; we consider it a way of life. Exchanging homes has been a wonderful opportunity to exchange lives, if only for a short time. We have grown from these great experiences, having done more than 40 enjoyable exchanges, sometimes repeating swaps with some of the members over and over again and having become friendly with many of the members. We see this arrangement as having guests in our home, not at all a business relationship, and we feel a responsibility that YOU have a wonderful experience in the home, neighborhood and city that we love. We want to know about YOU.
We've put together a large book with suggestions for sight-seeing, walks, restaurants, museums, etc. Our daughter lives nearby and is usually available to help you. We want to get to know you as best as possible by reading your personal description. So, do you think we have similar likes, dislikes, goals and expectations?
Lately I've noticed that many inexperienced, new members are giving very limited information in the personal description section; for example, many members write something like, "my husband and I are 32 years old, both professionals and we like to travel". Perhaps these are the same listings where the home is sparsely and impersonally furnished (maybe not even a table and chairs for meals). It may have a sofa facing an emormous TV and that's about it.
Simultaneous and non-simultaneous exchanges are possible.
We are non-smokers, in our 60's, flexible and adventuresome. My husband is a self-employed architect and I am not currently working. Most likely just the 2 of us will be swapping but at times we may want to travel with another couple. Although this would be a rarity, this could bring our party to 4 adults at times.
Aesthetics and beauty and interesting surroundings are very important to us. Technology, computers ,TV's (we never watch it) , etc. are of little importance to us although our home is fully equipped. Our home is beautifully and uniquely furnished with an eclectic mix of antique and modern.
We are interested in exchanging with homes that reflect the personality of the owner. We like homes with interesting furniture, art, antiques, sophisticated design, warmth and comfort and are not interested in cookie-cutter type homes. Right now we are keen to exchange with a home with a fabulous stove, an Aga, Lacanche, La Cornue or a type we've never even heard of!
Sadly, we report that Boots, our beloved cat, died . He is pictured in the photos of our home but he is no longer part of our home exchanges.
We will take loving care of your pets, plants and home and request and expect that you will do the same.
We like museums, concerts, joy, theater, dance performances, wine, food, love, people watching, walking, nature, cities, villages, vineyards, beaches, mountains, lakes, gardens, reading, meeting people, architecture, the unexpected, the beautiful and the interesting.
We are interested in swapping with homes in cities or the countryside. NO SUBURBS PLEASE.
My husband enjoys painting watercolors and sketching. I am studying Spanish and can manage un poquito but have high hopes for improvement with practice; Spanish-speaking countries are of special interest to us.
We'd love to know about YOU and your home.
We are experienced home exchangers having enjoyed more than 40 very wonderful swaps and are looking forward to many more. NON-SMOKERS ONLY PLEASE.

beautiful well-equipped home. great location. nice walk to the plaza. very quiet. pretty patios and garden with hot-tub. genial,easy-to-work-with exchangers who left our home in perfect condition.
My husband and I enjoyed a happy get-away to this beautifully designed Manhattan brownstone. The owners made us feel like family with their accommodations and many publications about things to do in their city. The "problem" was that there were far too many fun things to do, right in their Upper West Side neighborhood! It was, at most, a few minutes away from great restaurants, shopping, parks, and subways. We have great memories of our visit. We enjoyed pleasant communications with our hosts before, during, and after our swap. Our house was in perfect condition upon our return.
Staying in this adorable, convenient, clean red brick townhouse made us feel like Georgetown locals. The outdoor patio and the park down the street provided repose from days of tourism. The bus stop to the downtown area is very close as is M Street with its restaurants and shops. The exchangers are friendly, organized and easy to communicate with and left our home in perfect condition.
What a fabulous place in NYC to stay. It is beautifully furnished, set on a quiet street in the center of Manhattan offering a unique perspective of living in a historic brownstone. David and Sandy were so hospitable and informative about the city. Our exchange went very smoothly.
Austin is a fun city. This lovely home is conveniently located: we walked to trendy South Congress, to restaurants, shops and bars. Tastefully decorated, clean, comfortable, spacious and with a beautiful garden with fountain, barbecue and double-story porch with views of Austin and The Hills, this home is perfect. Plus, the exchangers are generous, organized & easy-to-deal with and left our home in perfect condition.
Sandy and David's home is a perfect island of tranquility in the best part of New York. The house is big and in perfect condition. With its 3 floors and a private garden it is a real luxury in NY. Two different metro lines are both only two blocks away and all the main museums are a short bus ride or a 20-minute walk across the Central Park. There are lots and lots of great restaurants and good shops in the neighborhood. Watching Jewish life around you is also quite an experience. The neighborhood has the best Jewish delis and supermarkets in the whole city. To put it simply - you will love their home, guaranteed.
This was a great exchange, so great I was almost tempted to keep it to myself. Because it was non-simultaneous I got to meet Sandra and David both in Amsterdam and New York. It was wonderful to spend some time together so we could both show each other around. Sandra even gave me a private tour of Manhattan. She's a Big Apple City Greeter and knows her way around the city! There is loads of information on things to do in NY in a hugh file that Sandra put together. Their house is beautiful. David restored it with much eye for detail. Although there is so much to do in NY and the house is in such a great location, it's also very nice to stay at home. And the sunny garden is a treat. Central Park and The Hudson River are just a couple of minutes away on foot. Amsterdam Avenue has great restaurants and bars and shops. I got some great tips for the best restaurants and the Smorgasbord festival at the Brooklyn Bridge was another great tip. Only on Sundays with the best food and view of the Brooklyn Bridge and the city. Conveniently located between 2 different Subway lines. But you don't always need to take them because you could just as well walk. Joep
My visit to NY was enhanced by my stay at the Van Buren Brownstone home. Their home was delightful and location was perfect; close to NY highlights, transportation, theatre. The host was ultra gracious in offering their home for exchange. Everything was organized. We enjoyed separate bedrooms with my cousin, this exchange had character, style and a perfection rarely found in such endevours. If ever you have the good fortune try a holiday at the van Buren's, you will not be dissapointed. It was the best. Joyce Rubenstein
What an amazing home exchange!!! This home is so perfectly located - just one block from Central Park. We loved everything about this place - the gorgeous views, the adorable loft bedroom, the luxurious master bedroom and bath - so spacious! I felt so honored to be in that home! We walked and used Uber everywhere and it was so amazing to watch the snow fall from their large front and back windows. It has a lovely garden and back porch off the master as well!!! The home was so secure and just one block away was the best coffee shop, grocery/drug store and cute pub. I thought the living room was a perfect, comfortable gathering area. Wow...this was first class all the way.
Jennifer's cottage was all we could have wished for during our Savannah, Georgia visit. We loved every second in her charming, very well located home on a quiet, beautiful street in Savannah's historic district. The cottage is tastefully furnished with individual style. The space was perfect for us; we were 2 couples. The private garden provided us with an attractive, peaceful place for breakfast. Off-street parking was an added bonus. This friendly, charming and helpful owner was a delight to meet and to communicate with during our exchange planning emails and phone calls. We definitely hope to return to graceful Savannah and Jennifer's wonderful cottage! Savannah is highly recommended as well.
