We got this offer from Mendocino, while we were actually on holiday in San Francisco. We had no real idea what to expect, as we'd never been north of SF before, but thought we'd have a look. We decided to take the 'scenic route' up Highway 1, which was absolutely wonderful. It was a bit of a drive, as the road is quite windy, but an experience not to be missed. The house itself was lovely. A huge wooden house in amongst the trees overlooking the ocean. Quite idylic. There are a few other houses down the road, but the buildings are cleverly designed not to take anything away from the natural beauty. There's a short walk down to the sea shore. Mendocino itself is a 5 minute drive away. It's a very pretty, beautifully conserved town, with weatherboarded houses, restaurants and upmarket gift shops. The coastline is quite dramatic, as it is down this whole stretch of Northern California. We only had a few days here but thoroughly enjoyed them as a balance to the more hectic life in San Francisco. Recommended.
