We love the people. That's the best part of exchanging - meeting the people of the country you are in so anywhere with friendly people, we are interested in exploring. Wandering around in the day to day places, like supermarkets, drug stores, hardware stores - the regular places not just tourist attractions - we find really fun. We can spend hours just getting lost in a city, sitting and people watching.
We exchanged our home in England with the Cangelosi family for 3 weeks in Summer 2010. We whole process of arranging the exchange was a very pleasant and straightforward one - conversation was easy going and nothing was too much trouble for them in providing details on the area etc. They even helped us secure discounted Disney entrance. The home is lovely and in a nice area. Easy reach of the beaches at Malibu and Los Angeles, a short drive to Santa Barbara and some wonderful pituresque countryside close by. The home was comfortable and well cared for with a nice garden and view of the mountains which the listing doesn't do justice to. The Cangelosi's even cooked a lasagne for our arrival after a long flight and this was most welcome. We also swapped cars and this was very straightforward. We stayed in touch during the exchange and there was lots of good communication and understanding. Best of all was the welcome we received from the friends, neighbours and family. Our children were invited to play, we were invited to BBQ's and picnics in the park - everyone was so friendly and welcoming. This is what makes home exchanges so different from a regular vacation in a hotel somewhere. We certainly plan to visit Southern California again and we would have no hesitation in recommending the Cangelosi family for an exchange.
We exchanged with the Ford family for three weeks in the lovely farming village of Shropham. The house was amazing - an English treasure - and they have upgraded the 2nd floors with spectacular bathrooms. The exchange planning was wonderful and easy and we feel as if we have new friends in England. The grounds are extensive and a great place for kids to run about and explore, including an egg hunt every morning! The town is a train ride to London and we were able to see a lot of the English countryside. Our children were welcomed with all kinds of 'sweeties' and we received a nice bag of typical English food to kick start our trip. Upon our return, our house was in pristine condition - you would never know anyone had even been here - except the thoughtful and sweet gifts left by the Fords. It was a pleasure and a trip of a lifetime. Our only regret was not being able to meet - but it was perfect first exchange. Their home is an ideal English countryside treat and from all acounts of our friends and neighbors, the Fords are a delightful family.
