Interested in a 2 to 3 week exchange in the summer of 2016. Our house will likely be available for about 4 weeks as we typically add on travel to our home exchanges.

Interested in a 1 to 3 week exchange in the summer of 2016!
We exchanged houses with this lovely family in summer 2013 (Portland - Amsterdam). We exchanged for almost 6 weeks and including cars. We definitely had a lot of fun preparing for this exchange with lots emails back and forth, and excellent help from Stephen and Lea. When we arrived the fridge was filled for the first couple of days and they had prepared a great binder with a lot of useful information. A warm welcome. We had an overall wonderful experience in Portland, Oregon and California. Stephen & Lea own a fantastic and large house in a quiet neighborhood, not too far from downtown Portland and with all amenities, facilities and interesting places to visit close by. We could use basically all we needed, camp gear, bikes, etc.. The family is very friendly, helpful and are very easy to communicate with. At the end of our exchange we had a nice BBQ at our place and had a fun evening together sharing our experiences (see picture). I would definitely strongly recommend Portland and even more the lovely house and people behind this listing. All in all it was one of the best holidays for us ever.
Our family completed a nearly 6 week exchange with Eric and Mieke this past summer. The exchange surpassed our expectations. We had excellent communications leading up to the trip. Upon arrival we were greeted to a wonderful home great for families. They have patio perfect for outdoor dining (see picture) and everything a family could want, from a foosball table to bicycles with kid carriers. The location can’t be beat. It’s a quick walk to the tram stop and a 15 minute ride into central station. IJburg itself is a stunning modern neighborhood. Everything is a short walk or bike ride away, from coffee shops and markets to great local beaches! We can’t recommend their home enough. After a day exploring historical fast-paced Amsterdam, it’s nice to come home to the easy living of IJburg. Plus, we were able to meet Eric and Mieke at the end of the trip and they treated us to a fantastic barbecue. On our return home, it was as if we never left. Our home was well looked after, as was our at Holli! They are great people and will ensure you’ll have a wonderful exchange in lovely Amsterdam.
We had a fantastic fall weekend exchange with the Lucero family. Their home is a picture perfect 1920's Tudor on a corner lot in a charming neighborhood. The home is lovingly decorated with some unique vintage items, and very clean, cozy and comfortable. They accommodated our boys' love of Legos with a generous welcome gift for the kids and some excellent Oregon wine for the parents. Their house book was detailed, thorough and we appreciated their suggestions for things to do and places to go. We only had 2 nights in their home and could have easily stayed a week. We are already hoping they'll ask us back.
We just returned from a lovely fall weekend in Seattle and we felt very lucky to be staying is such a beautiful home. When we arrived at the Rasmussen's home we were greeted by their adorable and friendly cat Franz. Our children were thrilled to have an exchange cat to play with. Their home is located in a quiet family-friendly neighborhood with views of the hills. Quaint coffee shops and restaurants were just a short walk away. There was a well organized book that covered all of the details about the house, as well as provided us with lots of ideas for places to visit and places to eat. The house was decorated beautifully, incredibly clean, and had everything we needed to make ourselves at home. Seattle is an incredible city with much to offer, but it was nice to come back "home" to a cosy fire and a good cup of coffee. We would love to exchange with this family again... soon!
We exchanged with Stephen and Lea and had a terrific time in their lovely Portland neighborhood. Their house is spacious, comfortable, very tastefully decorated and well-maintained but also warm and homey. It is in a quiet, historic neighborhood with lots of greenery, nearby restaurants, shops, cafes, and an outdoor public pool (it was hot while we visited!). We felt happy to go out all day exploring or to spend lots of time at home. Access to all the Portland sites was easy, either by car, bike or public transit. Communicating with Stephen and Lea was better than I ever imagined a home exchange could be -- what warm and wonderful people! We shared tips for planning in advance and also communicated via email and text during the entire exchange. They went above and beyond even what longtime friends would do for you. Thank you, Stephen and Lea! Hope our paths cross sometime in the near future! -Esther, Erik and family
What an experience swapping our homes with this wonderful family…. From their very first proposal last September, we directly felt very comfortable and had a fun time writing, joking, sharing experiences with Stephen and Lea which made the road towards the destination also very valuable. People from Portland and Oregon are very proud and happy to live in that part of the world and we understand perfectly why. We really enjoyed exploring nature’s beauty and were happy to use the car and camping stuff. We visited / discovered three states, Oregon (Painted hills, Smith Rock, Crater national Park, national Dunes recreation area), Washington (North cascade national park and San Juan Islands) and California (Redwood national park) and on these trips we were very lucky to see loads of wildlife and to meet very nice people. We will never forget, the Orca’s, humpback whales, sea lions, bald eagles, elk, rattler snake,….and the horse riding in the prairie while enjoying wine down ranch air bnb. If you love unspoiled, endless nature, this place is a very good location… Also, Portland was a very nice city to stay. People are easy going and always ready to help and even cycling in the inner city is very child friendly. Closer to the house, we really enjoyed Grant park, our almost daily visit while in town and our shopping and eating in the New Seasons, a shop with a social function going from the recruitment of their staff till organized games night on Thursday, all things we really appreciated while enjoying local live. The house itself had everything we could have hoped for and is very tastefully decorated, a perfect place for ourselves and the children. The children loved their rooms, the toys and not to forget Holli, the cat .. Home exchange is obviously about the sharing economy, travelling ‘light’, sharing experiences and visiting places recommended from inside out, but sometimes, very occasionally, it’s also about friendship, and we do consider the Lucero clan as our American friends we hope to meet someday in real life.. We like to thank Stephen, Lea, Campbell and James very much for our ‘common journey’, for the good laugh before and during our stay, for their proposal and for the good care for our home in Ghent. A family we would warmly recommend !
We just returned from a wonderful four week exchange with Jan, Karen, Seppe, and Kamiel in their beautiful Ghent, Belgium home. From the very beginning, when we first contacted them for a potential exchange, everything went smoothly and we had great communication. We now consider them our Belgium friends and hope to meet in person some day! Their modern home was a perfect fit for our family of four. It was beautifully decorated and very clean- it had everything we could possibly need. Our kids loved their rooms and could play for hours in the huge backyard which included a sand pit, swings, bikes, and great lounging chairs for the parents! The location of the home was just perfect. A quick walk up the street leads straight to the tram stop which will take you directly into the heart of Ghent, or to the train station. It was also close to markets, bakeries, and a weekly farmers market. Ghent is centrally located to explore other parts of Europe. We took a couple of short trips to Bruges and Brussels by simply packing our backpacks, hopping on the tram to the train station and in the less then 30 minute train ride, we were exploring another amazing city in Belgium. We were also able to use their car for a longer road trip through France. The city of Ghent itself is beautiful and fun to explore. We were lucky enough to visit during their annual music festival of Ghentfest. What a treat! The whole city is alive with smiling faces, delicious street food, and music everywhere. But even after the festivities, Ghent is just lovely with its canals and architecture. Plus the food is pretty amazing- can I just say "all you can eat ribs!" When we returned to our home, we found it just how we had left it. We were happy to know they enjoyed their time here as well. We would highly recommend exchanging with this family! Thank you Jan, Karen, Seppe, and Kamiel for sharing your home with us and adding to our life's memories.
