My wife, Linda, and I, George, are retired (from teaching and telecommunications, respectively). We moved from the Atlanta area to our new rural Virginia home in 2000.
We have vacationed in some wonderful places including Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Scotland and Ireland. We have also cruised the Baltic Sea and its seaports (I especially liked St. Petersburg), and the West Indies. We enjoy visiting art museums, gardens, taking in theater, pub-hopping and conversing with the locals.
We swap with a Washington DC family twice yearly (about 9 times) We also exchanged to Los Angeles CA, New York City, Philadelphia PA, San Miguel de Allenda MX, Vancouver BC.
You have a selection of homemade wines and vegetables from the garden. Our spring garden has peas, fava beans, asparagus, spinach, scallions, lettuce, onions and, of course, garlic. We also have a summer garden of tomatoes, peppers, beans, corn, cucumber, okra, and egg plant. Leeks, winter squash and collard greens are available in winter. I am always outside, cutting wood for the winter, working in the vegetable garden or, lately watering the vegetables during the constant dry summers. During inclement weather wine making is another undertaking. There is ample varieties of both red and white wine for your enjoyment. The Tea House was finished in the spring of 2011. The Japanese-style garden and pond was finished in the spring of 2010. These new additions are adjacent to Linda's cottage garden
Linda's large cottage garden in the rear of the house. She has lilacs, roses, crepe myrtles, wisteria, clematis, boxwoods, Rose of Sharon, magnolias, camellias, hibiscus, azaleas, various lilies, irises, phlox, black-eyed Susans, daisies and a small herb garden. She planned her perennial garden so that something is almost always on bloom. Please bring in the flowers and make our home yours.
We can make accommodations for our Cocker Spaniel, Bonnie to stay at another home while you are here. We also have a cat named Peaches that can be boarded.
We normally have season tickets to the University symphony and theater. We also frequent the art museums in the "Center City" of Charlottesville and enjoy the wide variety of visual and performing arts in Washington DC. All Smithsonian exhibits are free to the public and are located in Washington DC.
Ich kann ein bissen Deutsch, y Linda habla Espanol.
We enjoy gardens, woodlands, forests; anything green. We also enjoy historical sites and the culture of civilized people.
