Hello from Washington
My name is Jan and my husband, Peter, and I have lived in Washington D.C. off and on for 40 years. We love all there is to do in Washington and the proximity to all the city has to offer. We have 2 grown children who are on the East Coast and we love living here. We also love international travel and have been many places in the world. We hope to continue our travels and help others do the same.
I am a former teacher and my husband is in the publishing business. We love to volunteer in the community and find that Washington is a great city with many wonderful things to do.
We love our home and hope you will too.
Peter loves to write about our experiences and I love to photograph them!
We exchanged for this property in March of 2015 and had a wonderful time. The home was beautiful and very comfortable. It was in a great location in DC close to all major sighseen places in DC. We were happy to get to know Jan & Peter - our hosts, they are wonderful people. We felt as we have been friends for a long time and now we consider them part of our extended family. We enjoyed visiting several of the wonderful museums, the White House, Capitol, we listed to a concert in the Kennedy Center and found some wonderful restaurants in the Georgetown area. We had a great time going around the city. We felt that our week went too fast with so much to see and enjoy in the area. B Jan & Peter have a cosy home in a great area and we will be delighted to exchange with them in the future. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great Home Exchange experience that wants to enjoy the cultural marvels of Washington DC.
Diane and Carlos have a lovely home. We enjoyed our stay there a great deal!!! They are beautiful people who invited us to watch movies in their theatre and eat popcorn popped in their amazing popcorn machine. We loved every minute of the our stay. We enjoyed visiting the Georgia Aquarium and visiting family who live in the area. Jan and Peter
We had a lovely stay in Washington! Jan's & Peter's condo is strategically situated; we could walk to the White House, the Capitol, all the Smithsonian museums and to a different restaurant every night. If we didn't feel like going to the restaurant, we took a 10 minute walk to the grocery store and ate on the roof top. We had a warm welcome from Jan and Peter: lots of information on Washington and the area, spotless condo and a friendly conversation throughout the exchange. For us, it was a memorable vacation and we highly recommend them as an exchange partner if you wish to stay in Washington.
We had such a perfect visit to D.C. and Jan and Peter's condo did not disappoint. First the location was spot on. So easy to get around. We used the D.C. bike share plus metro but most of the time everything was an easy walk. The neighborhood was safe and has such beautiful buildings with wonderful gardens. The condo itself was easy to find and had plenty of room. Everything is set up to be comfortable and is a most pleasant home away from home. The roof top terrace was where we started each day with our coffee and ended each day watching the sun go down.
Jan and Peter's DC condo is spot on. The location could not be better. The Dupont area has everything within an easy walk, shops, restaurants and sights. Bike riding is easy in that area as there are bike lanes on most of the roads. And you don't need to bring your own bike as DC has an easy to find and use 'bike share' program. Their home is very comfortable and the roof top lounge was perfect. We started every day on the roof top with our coffee and ended each day watching the stars over DC. Can't wait to go back!
We loved staying at Kathy and Blaine's very comfortable home in Hagerstown. They were the perfect hosts. Peter and I loved the garden with fresh tomatoes and fresh eggs from the neighbor's chicken. The home is spacious and has all the comforts a traveler could want. We also loved the history in the area and the lakes and rivers. The Appalachian trail is only minutes away for those who love hiking! Blaine and Kathy left their kayaks for us and we would love to learn how to use them for a future visit. We went to a minor league baseball game and had front row seats behind home plate, a first for both of us. I of course, found the outlet mall and Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren stores. It was the perfect get away!
We enjoyed our visit to Jan and Peter's home in DC! The location is very convenient to the mall area with its many museums and national monuments. There are plenty of nice restaurants nearby, shopping, and easy public transit. The apartment had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Jan and Peter's apartment in DC! It is conveniently located close to museums, restaurants, shopping, and public transit. We walked up the Rock Creek Park Trail to the zoo one day, and enjoyed browsing the lovely architecture of the neighborhood. The apartment was very comfortable, and we had everything we needed for a delightful week in the city! Linda and Bill
We had such a wonderful time in Linda and Bill's home. It was comfortable and beautifully maintained. It provided us with a great place to stay as well as a fantastic location. We walked to the beach in 5 minutes and enjoyed all the area has to offer. Emerald Isle is a unique spot and the surrounding towns were also very interesting. We were there to rest but we could have snorkeled, surfed, fished or spent our days boating in the crystal waters. We did enjoy the variety of wildlife including schools of dolphins. It was the perfect beach vacation. Jan and Peter
