- John Engineer (59)
- JoAnne Law Enforcement (58)
A friendly maritime welcome!
John is an engineer and JoAnne has worked for the federal government in law enforcement and we are both very near retirement. Our children are off on their own now, but we may travel with another couple of retired teachers from time to time. John is mister fixit with many skills and a passion for little British sports cars. We both enjoy good food and wine and experiencing local history and culture. We prefer towns and villages over large cities, and love to shop at markets and stroll the streets or countryside. We are non smokers and would like to exchange with the same. We would prefer non simultaneous exchanges as this is our second home and it is most pleasant for visitors from June through October. We like to travel in spring, fall or winter. We are mainly interested in travelling anywhere in Europe or North America, but we are willing to be spontaneous, especially after retiring in early 2016. Our preferred language of communication is English, but we can understand a little French.
March 1 — June 30, 2017 These dates are flexible
Non simultaneous exchanges preferred. Come to Nova Scotia in the summer or fall when the weather is fine! This is our second home. We have one exchange planned for Switzerland in Spring 2017 and we are looking for other exchanges in Southern Europe during this period.
March 1 — June 10, 2017 These dates are flexible
We hope to visit Italy in 2017, especially a place with a nice terrace and a table to sit at with a glass of wine. We have an exchange organized for Switzerland during this season as well
November 1 — May 31, 2018 These dates are flexible
Someplace warm in the winter in exchange for a Nova Scotia vacation in the spring, summer or fall!
October 1 — December 31, 2020 These dates are flexible
Victoria anytime. My mother and lives there and we like to visit as often as possible.
June 1 — September 1, 2017 These dates are flexible
We would like to visit Iceland in the summer months for a week, sometime in the next few years, and possibly with our daughter. She has visited there and wants to experience it again.
We enjoy short city stays, but prefer life in towns and villages. John particularly loves the mountains and auto shows but we enjoy the seaside, farms or just about anywhere! We retire within the year!
Having stayed in this cottage and Reviewing the listing as posted by JoAnne and John we found the information they have provided is spot on. From our initial arrival and the warm welcome provided by JoAnne and John we had no doubt we were going to enjoy our stay. The cottage is spacious, very clean and well equipped and its location cannot be beaten particularly if your looking for peace and tranquility (if your looking for loud parties and noise traffic this is not the cottage for you!). We enjoyed watching the array of birds, squirrels and chipmunks feeding from the bird feeders, or chasing each other up and around the trees as we ate our meals on the deck or in the covered porch. Travelling on the traffic free backroads to the Bay of Fundy and the Annapolis Valley was a treat as the trees changed from green to red and gold. While the south shore coastline from Peggy's cove to lunenburg offered quaint fishing villages and historic homes. For seafood lovers you cant beat the Chester Golf course (casual diners welcome) fresh, reasonably priced quality food served overlooking the Bay. With so much to do and see we found our time at Chester was short and we were hesitant to leave.
Colin and Belinda were wonderful hosts and they provided us with excellent information on their cottage and the surrounding area. We fell in love with the breathtaking landscape in Matapouri, and did the 2.5 kilometre walk around Whale Bay, the Lookout and back to Matapouri Beach almost every day. The beach was a perfect curved crescent of white sand with crystal clear water and interesting seashells. The cottage was very comfortable, roomy, clean and equipped with good appliances, kayaks, beach towels and toys. The covered patio was our dining room for every meal and we enjoyed a lemon off their tree. We took our hosts suggestions for a day trip to Paihia, where we caught the little fast passenger ferry to Russell. Charming Russell had great shopping and lovely cafes and restaurants. We also cruised on the "Perfect Day" tour boat out of Tutukaka to the Poor Knights Islands. Near the Marina was a great restaurant, Schnappa Rock. Amazing snorkelling there. The local people we met were very friendly, the stargazing and birdwatching were amazing, and at night it is quiet and peaceful. The perfect relaxing vacation spot.
