Greetings from The North Fork
Nancy and Rich have lived on the eastern end of Long Island for 29 years, enjoying all this part of the world has to offer. Rich is a winemaker at a local winery and Nancy is a program director for the Cornell University Extension Service. We enjoy the outdoors and have made our property a haven for relaxation and play. All of our guests comment on how tranquil and beautiful the outdoor space is; gardens in bloom from April to November. When the weather turns cold, we come inside to our comfortable plant filled great room and enjoy long soaks in the hot tub. You'll love the North Fork, everyone does. We do not have any pets but would be happy to care for your pets or have well behaved pets visit our home.

Access to an outdoor sitting area (yard, balcony, garden - -can be small!) is important to us.

Our daughter is moving to Seattle in February 2016 and we would like to visit her in June to explore her new home town!
April 2009..Just returned from a wonderful week at Rich and Nancy's home. Every room in their home is large and comfortable. They left the home welcoming for us with plenty of eats and drinks that you need not run right out to shop. If you like to walk just step out the front door for a wonderful neighborhood walk which can lead to a beach that will loop back home. If you like beaches many nearby. Great restaurants in the area, particularly fresh sea food. If you choose to visit Manhattan for the day it is an easy trip by train.. When I returned home to a neat clean home..
Our family's visit to St.Petersburg Florida was wonderful! Peter's home is set in a spectacular spot - the view out the back is so beautiful (the pics on the site don't do it justice) and peaceful. The home is attractive and well- equiped with anything you'd need and the area offers good dining and great beaches not too far away. My husband and son enjoyed kayaking and I enjoyed watching them from my "perch" in the comfortable and spacious screen porch. Peter has pretty flower beds between the porch and the water and I could look at them all day! Peter is a very experienced exchanger; he walked us through an easy plan for exchanging cars as well at the airport and it worked out perfectly. We felt badly that his visit to NY was during an unseasonably chilly week, but he and his family had a nice time and our home was very well taken care of - neat as a pin when we arrived home. Peter even was nice enough to send us some things we'd left behind. A very successful exchange, a new friend - we couldn't be happier.
We visited this home in August 2005 to celebrate a family reunion. We selected this location as we had family in the same town. We had 5 members of our family join us in the exchange. What we loved the most about the home was swimming in the delightful pool during a very hot spell, spending time in the Great Room where we ate and hung out while looking out at the beautiful flower gardens surrounding the house. We were able to pick fresh raspberries and tomatoes from the vegetable garden and had a fabulous cookout for the family prepared in their wonderful kitchen and served on the outdoor patio. The home was spotlessly clean but filled with a clever mix of antique and contemporary furniture. Everywhere you went there was something interesting to look at whether it was a plant, family picture or antique. Their hot tub was a relaxing retreat for the golfers after playing 18 holes of golf. The North Fork is a great place to visit and the home was within walking distance of the Long Island Sound. There are several nearby beaches on both the Sound and the Peconic bay. We had a tour of Raphael winery where Rich is the winemaker. It has become our favorite wine and we stock up every time we go back to Mattituck. On the other side, the Olsen-Harbich's left our home neat and clean. The very best part of this exchange is that Nancy and Rich have become dear friends. Although we never met them before the exchange we have visited them twice since and email frequently. We hope to do another exchange with them in the future. Barb and Ed Corrigan #41051
We enjoyed our week long visit to the Corrigan's lakeside home in the summer of 2005 from start to finish. Their home is lovely - a perfectly relaxing setting containing everything you need to wind down and spend quality time as a family. We brought our young teenage son and his friend who claimed the spacious basement sleeping/living area (it would fit many more!) and we were very comfortable in the master bedroom on the first floor. The waterfront views were outstanding from the beautiful screened in porch, a cozy spot for curling up with a good book and relaxing. As experienced boaters, we had made arrangements to use the Corrigan's motorboat to explore the large lake and the kids loved tubing off the back and fishing. The lake was wonderful for swimming- clear and cool and deep. We also used the canoe and paddleboat to explore the small lake - nature at it's best surrounds this home. We enjoyed being in this in very "special spot" so much that we did not venture out very much. Did have great fun swimming at the marble quarry one day and shopping and dining out a few times in Manchester. While we were at the lake, the Corrigan's were having a family gathering at our home. We returned to find everything neat and tidy. You would not even know they were there. They are an outgoing, respectful and friendly family and we have kept in touch through email and two visits. You'll love Lake St. Catherine and the Corrigan's! Nancy and Rich Olsen-Harbich #39135
Our exchange with the Olsen-Harbich family was fabulous. The north fork is beautiful. We went to the beach, a winery, played golf, and spent a day in Sag Harbor. We ate at many excellent restaurants that take advantage of the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables in the area. Their home was very peaceful and comfortable, the gardens a pleasure to look at. We loved grilling, building a fire and making s'mores and relaxing on the porch. The pool was so refreshing after a round of golf and we all loved the outside shower! We really did feel like it was our own home for a week. This was our first exchange and Nancy was so helpful in setting everything up, giving us directions and maps for things to do. Getting around was no problem and everything is fairly close. It really was so easy and our home and cats were very well taken care of. It was a great experience.
July 2007 - Our family recently returned from our week long vacation in Ocean City at the Padula's gorgeous and luxurious home and had a great time there.First, the house - WOW! This recently built home is like something out of a designer showcase magazine. One room is more beautifully appointed (furnishings, technology, etc) than the next. Each contains top of the line carpets, windows treatments, art and fixtures, yet all rooms are very comfortable and inviting. Our teenagers worked out every day in the 3rd floor gym, we loved cooking meals in the spacious kitchen with every
The gardens and pool area are a beautiful retreat with multiple areas to sit and relax. We ate breakfast in the poolside pergola and visited local wineries. We walked along the beach and biked to the town. Our host family left a comprehensive book with area information that was most helpful. Best of all, when we returned to our home, they had left it tidy and neat.
Our week long vacation in Bethany Beach was wonderful! This home is lovely - nicely decorated, well equiped, comfy beds, central air (it was HOT outside), two decks for relaxing. Our family of four (mom, dad, 19 year old daughter and 16 year old son)had plenty of room and privacy. Jan's paintings throughout the house are beautiful.Bethany is a nice seaside town for families: terrific white sand/great surf beach, small shops for browsing, a boardwalk which is clean and without that busy/trashy feel you sometimes get along the shore. Smiling children and happy vacationers abound. Town is close to the house - walk or bike. We loved that we could enjoy Bethany's calm and then easily hop over to Rohobeth or OC for more of a selection of shops/resturants/things to do.Our host family left lots of information for us, was easy to work with to set up the exchange and took good care of our home while they visited Long Island. Everything in our house was neat and orderly upon our return. We would highly recommend this exchange for your consideration.
After months of helpful planning by email with Jean Paul, our families exchanged homes for 2 weeks in June 2011. What a wonderful time we had! The charming home in Juan la Pins is located close to the beach (an easy walk), the train station (wonderful trains in France!) and shops. We were able to explore in the French Riviera, Provence and Tuscany - about 5.5 hours drive to Florence. Our family included my husband, our two college age kids and myself. Each of us had the best vacation ever. We would set out in the morning for day trips or a day at the beautiful beach, then gather on one of the home's patios in the evening to eat fresh figs, cheeses, fanatstic breads, fresh fruits, etc purchased at outdoor markets in all of the little cities and villages. Relaxing - home exchanging is a RELAXING vacation. We love it. We found this home to be very comfortable and it had everything we needed. The gardens are so pretty and make the property feel very private. Citrus trees, succulants of all kinds, catus and flowering perennials all mixed beautifully in 3 different seating areas. Their college age son stayed close by and made us feel right at home - so pleasant and helpful. Another friend also checked in on us, took us to tour Nice, invited my daughter to go hiking in the mountains (she really enjoyed it). Everyone was so nice. We would highly recommend this home exchange, both for the lovely home and great hosts. We returned to find our home spotless, just as we had left it, you wouldn't even know they were there. Nancy and Rich in Mattituck, NY
This is probably the best exchange we've done so far. The home, the gardens, the area....everything was perfect, Nancy and Rich were perfect host and hostess and made our visit so enjoyable. We are not sure what was the best part of our visit....the peaceful private beautiful home and gardens or the wonderful area it is in. Thank you so much for making our exchange so special Nancy and Rich. Hope to visit again.
Our Home Exchange with Nancy and Roy was terrific! The townhouse is a beautifully decorated and a well- planned space - four adults (we traveled with our young adult children) were comfortable and had all the privacy we needed for the week. We utilized pool and fitness facilities right across the street each morning before we left to explore in Charleston and the surrounding beaches and also again in the evening when we returned. The screened in porch was the perfect place for this mom to relax (reading and making jewelry) and the kitchen held all the equipment we needed to cook up yummy meals with local ingredients when we weren't dining out at one of the many excellent restaurants just a short car ride away. Nancy is the perfect hostess; lots of email to set things up and we chatted by phone to check in with how each was enjoying each other's homes and answer any questions. She took really good care of us and also our home - it was spotless when we returned. We highly recommend this home exchange to anyone looking for a great home base with a great ex-changer in order to explore the lovely city of Charleston!
We spent a few days in Mattituck at Nancy and Rich’s during the month of June. The communication with them was very easy; we exchanged emails and phone calls to make sure that the organization worked just fine. Nancy provided useful information about the house, their town and the North Fork in general. We followed them and thought that they made our stay very easy. The house is very comfortable, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped. We especially loved the beautiful garden and the swimming pool. The flowers are spectacular and the pool very clean and perfectly sized for serious swimming (me) and jumping/playing (son). We used everyday the outdoor shower; it’s very convenient! And there is a small fitness area in the basement! The North Fork is a beautiful region; we traveled once to the Hamptons and Montauk, but could not wait to get back to the quiet, picturesque, and less show-off side! And its wines were a very good surprise; we enjoyed visiting the winery where Rich works (he provided free tickets for our tasting!).
We have just returned from Cristina and Philipe's lovely apartment in Venice and it was a wonderful home base from which to explore this enchanting city! I think the location was about as central as you can be, with the Rialto Market and shops/restaurants right down the street and a few minutes more to the bridge. We purchased 7 day vaporatto passes so that we could use these boats along the grand canal to see all the magical sights of Venice - -so easy as there are not one but two stops near the apartment. The apartment itself was nicely furnished, very clean and modern and had everything we needed to make it our home for a week - full kitchen and laundry, dining and sitting areas and small outdoor terrace to enjoy sipping prosecco under the stars! We especially enjoyed the comfort of the bed and pillows after staying in hotels (In Tuscany, the week before arriving in Venice) that were VERY hard and uncomfortable! We slept like babies in Venice - the apartment is quiet and the A/C worked perfectly when we needed it. Working with Cristina to make arrangements for the exchange was a pleasure. She is very organized, emails promptly and has compiled excellent maps, instructions and recommendations for visitors to the apartment. When we returned, our home was in perfect order - neat and well- cared for. We highly recommend this exchange if you are considering visiting Venice - we loved it.
