Our experience on this exchange was outstanding. It was our first exchange. Michael's daughter met us at the home and showed us around the house and then left it to us. The photos of Michael's home posted here do not adequately show just how great of a place it is. The view is indeed spectacular. We would go outside every day to enjoy the views of Portland and Mt. Hood. The neighborhood is very nice and my wife kept saying the neighborhood was like a fairy tale land. The home itself had space far beyond our actual needs. The kitchen was great, the home theater stocked with movies. The neighborhood was quiet but a short drive to many restaurants and shopping, including great supermarkets and Powell's Books, one of America's largest bookstores. Some of Portland's best parks, which are very good - and large - are nearby. We had a great time and would happily exchange again. Please note that you'll probably want to get a car. You can walk to the nearby restaurants & shops & there are bikes available, which are good for getting around the local area, but the hills are pretty steep/long so you'll want to be in reasonable shape. A car will help with day-to-day life and to explore the many things Oregon has to offer. Michael left our place is great shape, was easy to reach via mail when necessary and was generally a very good home exchange partner. I would enthusiastically recommend Michael's place to anyone interested in visiting the Pacific Northwest. Seattle is just a couple hours away and the Oregon Coast is a bit more than an hour away, as is Mt. Hood. There is a lot to see and do.

What we said about Mike's house:

Mike and Miho-- are good folks to work with and they were very thorough in giving us all the information we needed to feel at home in their charming Tokyo pied-à-terre apartment. Located in the heart of Tokyo's Shinjuku neighborhood the apartment's location provided us with a great home base from which to explore Tokyo. We'd do it again...and again. Highly recommended.
