CALIFORNIA 's calling YOU !!!!! ...
I am Tom, a retired elementary school teacher, with a variety of interests, especially in the arts and theater My traveling partner, Joan, is also a retired teacher. We have been traveling independently throughout Europe for the last 15 summers and especially enjoy lingering in one area which enables us to immerse in the local community. Our interests are many; from theater, music , museums and sampling local cuisine.
We have had over 30 successful Exchanges, with some wonderful feed-back, and will take good care of your home, pets and plants. Send us a note, we look forward to hearing from you.
August 28 — October 20, 2015 These dates are flexible
We love New York City, especially in the late Spring (April, May, June) & in the fall (September/October)
We love theater, museums, historical sites, lingering over good food, culture, and meeting people.
We are planning our third visit to this wonderful beach cottage this summer! Need I say more? We love everything about it. The proximity to the beach is amazing for the kids and my mother loves her daily walks along the boardwalk. In the evening we often cross over to the bay to watch the fireworks from Sea World. We can walk for our groceries or to any one of the number and varied nearby restaurants. The home is very comfortable and Tom and Joan couldn't be greater people to exchange with.
We love Monteverde so much, and all that it offers,, that we have been back twice in two years. To anyone that enjoys nature this warm friendly safe community is the place to be! The people, the flora and fauna are magnificent! Do stop for some wonderful cuisine at Susanna's, located above the Bat Museum, and the coffee at Stella's bakery can't be beat. Deb certainly has a wonderful location to call home. As one says in Costa Rica, this is PURA VITA!!! Get there quick before the "modern world" ruins it!!!!
We've had great home exchange experiences over the past couple of years, but this exchange has been by far the best... and it's not even over! We are doing a non-simultaneous exchange with Tom and Joan, so we visited San Diego first; they're coming to NYC next month. To begin, we exchanged several emails with useful information before arriving and then when we got to San Diego, we received a welcome normally reserved for old friends. Tom's home reflects Tom and Joan's personalities - it's interesting, warm, and inviting. You can tell by being in his space how much he treasures even the smallest of his collectibles, so we know he and Joan will be excellent guests when the time comes for them to be in our home. They are repeat exchangers who have made many friends through home exchanging, and the reasons are obvious. We can't give them a higher recommendation.
You meet some wonderful people with Home Exchanging, and Stephanie and Mike are some of the nicest. They quickly became instant friends!! Their home is lovely - bright, colorful, comfortable - and we loved it. Mike guided us to some special historical walks around the neighborhood, plus they have a wealth of material to help you find your way around the city. An additional bonus is that the subway is only one block away !!! We were certainly happy with this exchange !
We (two adults and a teen) have done several home exchanges, and this one was one of our favorites. The cottage is charming, has everything you need, and is in a great location--a couple minutes' walk to a great beach, but since you're not on a beach, you don't get all the "beach noise." We enjoyed riding the bikes along the boardwalk and trying out the local restaurants. In fact, there were lots of things in San Diego we didn't go see because we liked spending time in the Mission Beach area. The homeowner was met us at the house and was extremely helpful in getting us oriented, let lots of good information in some binders, and told us about several restaurants and places to go that we would not have known of. It was a great way to spend spring break.
We had a great time at Mike & MArgaret's home. They have a large charming craftsman home in an exciting area of Portland. The Hawthorne neighborhood is filled with lovely homes as well as interesting restaurants and shops. If one wants to go to the down town area of Portland a local bus can get you there in minutes, While there I recommend seeing the Portland Zoo, the Japanese Gardens and the Rose Garden. We found everything we needed in this comfortable home to make it an excellent exchange. IF you are considering an exchange to Portland, do give this home some serious thought, you won't go wrong...
Loved every minute in this place! It was a delight! My daughter and her husband were able to join us for a few days of our stay. We felt very much at home because of how organized, thorough, helpful Tom was. We had all we needed and much more for an excellent vacation there. His home and furnishings are extremely interesting as well as charming! We managed to park our rental car in the area without problem, but one could easily take public transportation around this city. Being just off the boardwalk, it was quiet. There is lots of dynamic beach life going on minutes away, along with restaurants, services, grocery. Only regret? We were unable to find time to use the bikes provided! There is a sweet little garden area for sitting and/or eating outside. We really enjoyed meeting Tom and Joan and sharing stories. Although we are experienced home exchangers, this can make a big difference for new exchangers: meeting owners and establishing an initial relationship. This is optional, but very special. You become guests, but you are on your own!! What could be more perfect?! We look forward to seeing them again and as my son lives in San Diego, we surely will return. Clearly we will have to plan ahead in order to stay at Tom and Joan's again!!!
WE recently spent two wonderful weeks at Pierre's and Ellen's charming apartment in Paris! This is in a quiet and safe residential area, yet with just a short metro ride one can find all the highlights of Paris. There is a "MonoPrix" (grocery store) a short distance away as well as a twice weekly "open air market". Ellen has a very well equipped kitchen ! Anything you need to cook with you'll find in it. However if you don't feel like cooking there certainly are some wonderful restaurants near by. We loved their very helpful library, and especially comfortable living room chairs. All in all this was an excellent Home Exchange and what made it better was the opportunity to meet Pierre and Ellen while they were staying at my house. We felt that we had meet new friends rather than simply Home Exchangers. .
My husband and I had an excellent experience exchanging with Tom and staying at his cozy home located really close to the Pacific ocean. We used their beach bikes to ride along the ocean boardwalk and stopped at Konos restaurant...great for breakfast and has an ocean view! Also liked "World Famous" restaurant for dinner. Another good feature is that Tom has a small garage which was ideal, since there is not much available parking on the street. The home was neat and clean and very welcoming. We were quite pleased with our exchange. Thank you Tom and Joan!
We had a wonderful exchange at Paul and Connie's Cape Cod cottage ! The location of it is ideal for day trips to explore this wonderful region. It is a lovely home owed by lovely, friendly people Not only is their kitchen one of the best equipped ones we have seen in over 15 exchanges, but the whole cottage gave us a feeling of warmth and comfort. Many a morning was spent in their outdoor patio sipping coffee. Their home is within walking distance to the beach, but if you don't like walking, hop on the bikes the provide you. We have had a number of exchanges, but this one is right there at the top!!!!
Tom's Mission Beach cottage was fantastic and a wonderful trip down memory lane for me (a former San Diegan). My daughter's enjoyed the bunk beds and we enjoyed being right by the beach. The kitchen is well-equipped and we were grateful for the off-street parking. Tom and Joan are helpful and always a phone call away. Tom has a very informative binder to inform you of every aspect of San Diego vacation life. We would definitely recommend this quaint cottage and thank Tom and Joan for their hospitality.
We had a wonderful exchange in this comfortable cabin in Idyllwild. The cabin is fully equipped with everything you need to make this exchange as easy as possible. Not only is the cabin lovely, but so is the spectacular scenery which is all around you. If you are a lover of nature this is the Home Exchange for you !!! We loved it !!!\r\n The Murphys are warm friendly people, and are excellent in communicating and helping you to make your Mountain exchange dream come true.\r\n\r\n
