- Mike Wren Retired (2)
Looking forward to welcoming you to Asheville.
We are Mike (70 and from the UK) and Claudette (60 and from Trinidad) and have lived in Asheville for the last 8 years and love it. Mike worked in the oil industry for 30 years, before changing careers and moving into the IT business. Claudette was a stay at home mum and once the kids grew up and left home, we moved to Asheville from Texas to enjoy the mountains, the wonderful climate, and all of the pleasures of this thriving town. We have 3 grown children who may sometimes accompany us on our home exchanges, and 2 golden retriever dogs. Much as we love them, the dogs will however go to "summer camp" when we travel.
We love to garden, hike with the dogs, and now that Mike is retired, he is enjoying playing lots of golf again. Claudette sings with a local women's chorus and does volunteer work in the community.
We love to travel and have done so quite extensively over the years both with Mike's job and for pleasure. We are respectful of other people's property and will look after your home as if it were our own. We have recently completed our seventh very sucessful exchange, and this is definitly the way to travel and see the world from a "local's" perspective. We look forward to many more such adventures.

Looking for beautiful places to enjoy the outdoors, local arts and people. Good food and wine are always on our "bucket list", and walking, strolling, hiking in lovely sourroundings are a true bonus.
We enjoyed a one-week 'spring break' exchange with the Wren family in April 2012. Their home is in a great location to enjoy the city of Asheville and the surrounding spectacular mountains. The Wren home is beautiful, very clean, and extremely comfortable to enjoy some down time on the expansive front porch or back deck. The Wren's left us some wonderful suggestions for restaurants and even encouraged us to take their hiking books with us on the trails. When we returned back home we found our condo to be just as we left it along with a beautiful Easter Lily from the Wren's. We highly recommend an exchange with the Wren's they are wonderful exchange partners.
My husband and I recently spent a week in Jim and Diane's beautiful apartment in DC, on our first home exchange. The condo is luxurious, bright and airey and light filled, from the many floor to ceiling windows in all of the rooms. The furniture, appliances, fixtures etc are all modern and of high quality, creating a warm, very comfortable and welcoming environment in which to enjoy this wonderful city. The metro is about a 10 minute walk from the apartment, and the bus into Georgetown and downtown DC, was literally outside the front door of the building. There are several restaurants and cafes, as well as a grocery very close to the condo, and we found many others, including a great Whole Foods store, and other shopping less than 2 miles away. We had a wonderful time exploring DC, and it was an absolute pleasure working with Jim on this exchange. He responded quickly to all of our emails and phone calls, and they left us numerous maps and guides to help us find our way around the city...(Not to mention a gift bag of goodies to enjoy.) On our return home, we found our house in perfect condition, and a lovely note from Jim and Diane. If you are lucky enough to get an exchange with this couple, jump at it, you will not be disappointed. With many thanks and our very best wishes, Claudette & Mike, Asheville NC.
