- Karen Financial Planner (59)
Welcome to sunny North Queensland
Neville, 66, owns a sports store and Karen, 58 , is a financial planner and we enjoy domestic and overseas travel, taking holidays 2-3 times a year. Our last overseas holiday was to Spain and Portugal in January 2015. We often host Rotary Exchange students and have hosted students from South Africa, Japan, Brazil, Czech Republic and USA. We do not require simultaneous exchange and prefer to be at home to take you to our beach house which is only accessible by boat.
Prefer Japan or Europe for 2015 and 2016
November 28 — December 31, 2015
Simultaneous exchange is not necessary as we can accommodate visitors while we are at home. Non simultaneous is preferred at our home, so that we can take you to our beach house which is only accessible by private boat.
We take our golf clubs where ever we go
I have to admit I never found anything like Neville and Karen's hospitality in all my exchanges and travels. As I was planning to travel in Northern Queensland and sent out a few requests: they immediately invited me to their house, even if they don't have immediate plans to travel to Milan. Accepting the invitation was just about the best idea I ever had. Their home is as beautiful as in the pictures, and more, and the same goes for the beach house. The surroundings are stunning, with large sea turtles, fishes, amazing birds, a rock wallaby that comes to get the carrots you leave him at dusk.. and much much more! But what really makes this experience unforgettable is their company and hospitality. Going to the beach house requires a boat, and Neville's expertise in boats and fishing is remarkable. You will enjoy yourself and learn a lot, being in really good hands. We went fishing, snorkeling on nearby bommies and as I hadn't manage to go to the Reef before my visit, they arranged a day trip for me and the other two visitors staying in the beach house at the time. It was just a perfect day, with lots of corals and wildlife, we had the most amazing time. To top it all they got mud crabs and fresh prawns, and I really miss the amazing taste of those.. and of Karen's cooking in general! I most warmly recommend visiting Ayr and the beach house on Cape Upstart with Neville and Karen as your hosts.. and also staying longer than I did if you can make it! I feel really lucky about having found this exchange, and I am looking forward to meeting Neville and Karen again. They will always be most welcome to my home!
This was a very special exchange, as Karen and Neville invited us to stay with them and join them for a few days to their beach house. A perfect hide-away only reachable by boat, Karen taught us all about the Japanese kitchen, Neville took us fishing and crabbing (delicious!) in his boat, fishing for squid from the beach, sundowners on board and snorkling out on the reef, three days was too short! Always a bit of a gamble to hook up with people you never met before, but they made sure we had the most unforgettable days of our time in Australia. Hope to see you in Europe next year!
