- Rick Writer & professor (62)
- Dale Artist & retired teacher (60)
Hi Fellow Travellers!
My husband is a writer who is a part-time professor at Carleton University in Ottawa and teaches writing workshops around the world. I am a visual artist and educational arts consultant, having retired from 30 years of teaching. We are free in the winter months, so that we are able to travel to tropical destinations to be by the ocean, where we can surf, swim, snorkel, and hike. We recently moved to our dream house on a pristine lake in the Gatineau Hills, only 30-minutes from downtown Ottawa (the capital city of Canada). Our grown daughters live in Ottawa (an airline employee and a university student). They might want to join us in some of our travels. We have travelled extensively, and have lived in Ottawa, Hong Kong, and Australia. We don't smoke, are very responsible people and will take good care of your property as we do ours. In March, 2011 we did our first house exchange to Costa Rica. We recently exchanged for 2 1/2 months in Lennox Head, Australia. We can provide references upon request. Please note that due to an allergy to cats, we are not able to stay in a home where cats live.
Our home exchange at Rick and Dale's home in Canada was amazing. Dale and Ric's home was very comfortable and had a everything we needed and more. They had gone to a lot of trouble providing us with information about shopping, events and activities. We were welcomed by neighbour's and felt at home. Val des Mont is a small community serviced by the town of Perkins which had everything we needed. We were 20 minutes from a lovely family based ski field Edelweiss which was a very affordable ski lodge. Dale and Ric were excellent hosts assisting us with clothes and even lent us snow shoes and equipment. Magnifique! We were very happy for the 2 months we stayed in their excellently appointed home.
We could not have been happier with our exchange with Roly and Pam. Their lovely home was in an ideal location on a quiet, peaceful street - walking distance to the library and shops in town, as well as the stunning 7-mile beach. The view from their balcony was breathtaking. Roly and Pam were very generous, providing us with sports equipment, cooking and baking needs, and even local membership cards. They arranged for neighbours and family members to welcome us, and they took care of our home as though it was their own. We look forward to exchanging with them again!
