- Phoebe Secondary School (15)
Greetings from Gryffindor House!
Hi, we are are small family of three; Dean who owns a consultancy business; Katie who is a primary school teaching assistant; and our daughter, Phoebe, who is a very mature, well mannered and intelligent young lady. We are a pretty "normal" family. We enjoy travelling and we have visited many destinations around the world. We are a very active family, and like to keep ourselves busy. We are also very proud of our family home and have a high regard for other people's property and possessions. We treat all of our house exchange homes as if they were our own and we expect the same in return. We are non-smokers and as such we do not allow people to smoke in our home.
July 23 — September 4, 2016
We like to visit France during the summer. We can exchange for a maximum of six weeks during this period but will consider anything from two weeks or longer
Dean is "tennis mad" and plays around three times per week. Phoebe also plays a little bit, whilst Katie enjoys watching tennis along with a glass of Pimms!
The home of the Thomas family is extremely comfortable, impeccably clean, well-conceived and perfectly maintained. It is in a very quiet location, and while you need a car to get to places, there is plenty to visit - difficult to fit everything worthy in a three-week period! The broader area (west midlands) is charming, quiet, quaint, preserved and educational. We recommend it anytime and to anyone who looks for tranquility and natural beauty, and distance from over-exploited settings and noise and tourists. We have spent some three unforgettable weeks there, enjoyed out time a lot, and consider ourselves lucky to have come across the family with their home in that location. The Thomas family cannot be kinder, more considerate, organised, discrete and better prepared in terms of providing us with information of all sorts well in advance of the visit. In addition, we found everything in perfect order upon return to our house after the exchange, a real pleasure! They had even mowed our lawn, that special English touch which made our garden look freshly happy upon our arrival. A big thank you to them!
Perfect, perfect, perfect! This was our fifth home exchange in just over twelve months and what a fantastic home exchange it was. Everything from the ease of setting up the exchange, to the information provided to us before/when/after we arrived, to the absolutely stunning house, and the superb location, we truly could not have wished for anything more - it was simply perfect! When we returned home we would hardly have known anyone had been there. This family truly are very nice, considerate, professional people and consequently they are the perfect guests! Jan and Kristina - thank you once again for a wonderful home exchange experience and we'd like to wish you all the very best for the future. Kind regards, Dean, Katie and Phoebe x
We have just spent a great week in Telford. Dean and Katie's home is in a perfect location. We visited Ironbridge, Birmingham, Ludlow and Stratford upon Avon which is only one hours drive away. We had the added bonus of having nice weather. They provided us with lots of really useful information on places to go which meant that we made the most of our week there. Dean and Katie were great hosts and their house is beautiful, spacious and family friendly with a great balcony for the morning and evening sun. We had a lovely time there and we thank them for making our stay so enjoyable.
We spent a week living in this house in April 2012. The house itself is immaculate throughout, very spacious and the pictures do not do it enough justice. The train station is just a short walk away with good connections to the surrounding villages, towns and cities. There are plenty of things to see and do throughout Yorkshire and we would love to go back there again. Our home exchange hosts were perfect; they were very quick at responding to our messages / queries, provided plenty of information about their home and the local area including their personal recommendations, and most of all they did a fantastic job of looking after our home whilst we were away - we could hardly tell they'd been there! Great house, great location, great family... What more could you possibly want? Happy home exchanging! Dean, Katie & Phoebe x
We spent a lovely week in this house in February 2012 and we used it as a base to discover parts of central London. Although we did not spend that much time in the house during the day, when we were there we found it to be very comfortable and very well-equipped. Ideally, there is free on-street parking available right outside the house and it is just a five minute walk to the nearest train station (St James Street); from there you can use the rail / underground network and within 30-40 minutes you can be right in the heart of central London. In addition to the above the family were very easy to deal with and they did a great job of looking after our home! We would like to wish Catherine, Chris and their children all the very best for the future and to thank them once again for giving us a great home exchange and memorable experience. Kind regards, Dean, Katie and Phoebe x
First of all, I had a great 'feeling' corresponding with Dean. He is very reactive and detailed in his answers. Consequently, I proposed that we would spend some hours to meet. He accepted to fit us in his house for a night while they were still there It was a good idea because, as supposed, we have met a nice family. Secondly, I must say that I have been impressed by the explanations given in his map about his house and facilities in the neighbourhood. They have a new, spacious and comfotable home. Besides in a quiet place. We have appreciated the 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms since we came the 5 of us. They have a huge shopping center nearby which has been very convenient to do all our summer purchases. Next to local sites, I advise to visit Liverpool and Manchester. Not so close but worth visiting. Make sure that you prepare jogging routes for them since they are keen about it. We had a good time there.Go ahead and exchange with them! Bernard
The first thing to say about this home exchange was that it was super-easy to set-up; Bernard and I exchanged a flurry of emails during the first few days of our original contact and within a very short time period we decided to make a firm commitment to each other. In the weeks that followed we continued to communicate regularly via email and Bernard suggested we might meet up. We agreed to this and thus we invited Bernard, his wife Veronique and their three teenage boys to come and stay one night with us in our house in the UK (right at the start of our home exchange). This was the first time we had ever met any of our fellow home exchangers face to face and it turned out to be the most wonderful experience. Bernard, Veronique and their three boys are all very nice articulate people and we were thankful that they could speak very good English as our French was very rusty! In terms of the actual home exchange, we had a lovely time in Belgium. The house itself was spacious and very well equipped and it was ideally situated in a quiet town on the outskirts of Brussels. The nearest train station is around 10-15 minutes’ walk away and from there you can take a train directly into the centre of Brussels which is a very nice city indeed. The family left behind lots of tourist information for us to look through and even left us a map of Brussels with a pre-defined route marked out for us to follow so we could take in all the main sites – this was very useful. Aside from Brussels we also visited a few historical places including Ypres. The Menin Gate Memorial and Flanders Fields Museum are must see places for all British people. All in all we spent a nice 10 days relaxing in Belgium and we would not hesitate to recommend this exchange family. As well as being lovely people and them having a lovely home to exchange they also did a great job of looking after our home. Kind regards, Dean, Kate and Phoebe x
The Thomas Familly is great !! We spent 2 fabulous weeks in their house, splitting our time between visits of all locals great sites, and ballads/hikes in the area. There is lots to do, and to see. The house documentation is very complete and made like a pro (i pick up lots of it to build my own documentation ^^) ! The house itself is wide, clean, lovely, very convenient. nothing is missing ! We had tea every day on the balcony overlooking the beautiful garden. our 2 daughters had so much great times playing in the garden, and in the house itself; (not to mention Telford park !! what a heaven playground for the girls) You have some local stores within 5mn by foot. with everything you need. One of our favorite day was a long walk through the Hawkstone park (30mn from the house). It was our first exchange, and Dean make it awsome, answering each mails very fast, taking into account every needs and expectations we had, pointing out every spot fitting our center of interest. We were very confident before our departure, and Dean makes it easy to build this trust between our both family. Even during our stay we exchanged some emails, and Dean took a long time to explains us the best way to go to london, and the best things to do ... We had found back our home impeccable !!! Dean even took care of one small issue which happened on one of our sink evacuation ! We deeply hope to stay in touch with them and encounter them one day ! Arnaud
We spent two fabulous weeks staying in this lovely little town house during the summer of 2013. The house is situated very close to the centre of the charming little town of Pelissanne. Despite the town being small it has very good amenities, so you don't have to go very far for all those necessary day-to-day things such as food and petrol - which is great! The house itself is very clean and tidy, and very well-equipped. Locally there are lots of things to see and do; including the beautiful south of France beaches and the Mediterranean sea which we adored! Aside from the above-mentioned factual points, I can say that one of the best things about this exchange was the professional approach which this family took and the time and effort they put in to make sure that our exchange ran smoothly. This included lots of little things like replying quickly to all emails, finding out what our interests were and then doing research prior to our arrival, giving us clear and detailed instructions for using their home, letting their neighbours know that we would be staying there, etc... This was in fact our eighth home exchange and I can say without doubt that this was one of the most enjoyable (and trouble-free) exchanges that we have had so far. The family also did a great job of looking after our home. We would like to wish Arnaud, Gaelle, Cleo and Emma all the very best going forward and hope that they continue with the home exchange experience. Bon voyages! Dean, Katie and Phoebe x
