- Sue Retired (63)
- Les Semi-retired (63)
Hi from Canberra, Australia's capital city
We are both in our early 60s and recently retired. Les was an Army Officer and senior public servant. Sue worked in financial operations. We are interested in both short and long exchanges. Those for extended periods in overseas countries, from at least 2 weeks up to 3 months in the UK, Europe, USA, and South America. We will consider any location, so please try us. We are also interested in short and long stays in almost anywhere in Australia, including weekends and weekdays. We are interested in experiencing other cultures, and particularly like to see historical old buildings, eat local food, enjoy local music, and markets and festivals. We are not really into beaches, but ocean views would be great. We like to stay in cities, as well as villages with character and within reasonable driving distance of urban life. In other words, we like to experience a mix of environments but nothing too remote.
We will consider going anywhere, anytime, as we are very flexible and can do short notice if it is possible for us.
Our four adult children live all over the place - Canberra, Sydney and London.. One son lives nearby and is available for assistance and advice. He can help out with settling in and any house/pot plant care needed.
We would also like to see more of our son who is in London working as a Finance Adviser.
We take really good care of our home and our household things, so we would look after your home like it was our own. We are seeking exchange partners who will care and respect our home as much as we would with yours.
We have had a number of successful exchanges, both in Australia and overseas.

We love to see new places and lap up different cultures. Especially with longer exchanges we like to do things with the locals, such as going to local festivals, eating out, going to food fairs and local markets, attending musical concerts, and anything else that's on. When we travel, we like to avoid supermarkets and seek out food outlets for local produce. We are also passionate about arts, history, architecture and music. We really like to visit art galleries, museums and old buildings.
We have just returned from a wonderful exchange in Canberra, ACT. Our daughter's partner is American and had not seen our capital city so we exchanged with Les and Sue to their wonderful home in the perfect location. It was close to everything - only minutes from the lake, art galleries, Old Parliament House, cafes. shops and markets. The home is tastefully set up with every convenience and Sue and Les made the exchange so easy. We felt very welcome and the house had everything any exchanger could want and more. If you are thinking of coming to Canberra we can highly recommend getting in touch with Sue and Les. They are great communicators so there were no difficulties and they left our home looking just as we left it.
Leaving in Canberra in Les and Sue's home was the best way to get over the jet lag coming from overseas and get in shape to travel around Australia. What an impeccable house and pleasant people who greeted us at the bus station and made us a city tour. It was a privilege to enjoy such a great decor and comfort. We could walk easily to Lake Barley Griffin daily and visit the Museums and Galleries to learn about the country, art and history. Thank you for using your car since driving on the left side of the road was easy learning in such a well-designed capital city. We also appreciated the markets at walking distance and the helpful Flight Center to schedule our regional tours. We highly recommend this exchange.
We very much enjoyed our exchange at Sue and Les's elegant home. With two lounge areas and a large indoor courtyard, there was plenty of room to stretch out, and we were always warm and comfortable indoors on Canberra's chilly nights. The townhouse is ideally situated, just a short stroll to the Kingston Foreshore cafes and a lovely 20-minute walk beside the lake to Canberra's arts precinct. The house is impeccably presented and very well appointed. Sue and Les graciously greeted us on arrival and helpfully explained the workings of the house. Highly recommended.
We stayed at Sheena and Robert's home for a week and absolutely loved it. From their balcony there is a wonderful water view of a bay in one direction, and beautiful natural forest in another direction. We saw plenty of kookaburras, parrots and other birdlife in abundance around the apartment. The front yard is like a tropical garden. Just lovely. Their house is very stylish, modern and comfortable. It is a short walk to the Cammeray shopping precinct where we found great places to eat, bars, and a good natural food store. We had our own car and it was a very convenient and central location....just a short drive to the city. Sheena and Robert made our exchange very easy......no fuss and good communication beforehand. You would be very fortunate if you swapped with this lovely couple.
