Hello from Portland
We love to travel and explore new landscapes and communities. Greg recently retired from a career in healthcare and Nancy is a leadership development consultant in private practice with a lot of flexibility in her work. We have two young adult sons, both in Portland but living independently. We enjoy every season in the Pacific Northwest, and love to hike, ski and garden. In the fall of 2014, we spent 10 days hiking in the Picos de Europa in Northern Spain, followed by two more weeks, beginning in the Rioja region and ending in Barcelona. We have a four year old English Shepherd and welcome dogs that are housebroken and well-trained. We have lived in our home for 26 years and are crazy about our neighborhood and Portland. We look forward to sharing both with you.
You couldn't ask for better house guests than Nancy and Greg. Not only was my house spotless when I arrived home, they'd found a local laundromat to wash all the sheets and towels: they remade my bed with fresh linens so I'd have a soft nest to fall into when I arrived home from MY vacation, and they even left cute little presents for me based on what they observed of my personal tastes (cat cartoons and orange and red kitchen utensils!). I would have them here again in a heartbeat should they ever want to do another exchange with me. Great communications, lovely couple. :-) ____________________________________________________________ As regards my stay in Nancy and Greg's Portland home, let's just say you could scarcely ask for a better exchange. The neighborhood is one of the most beautiful in all of PDX, a gracious, quiet, lovingly manicured hamlet just moments from downtown, in walking distance to the best grocers and restaurants. Their home is a lovely 3-level: 2 bedrooms upstairs, living room, dining, a separate sitting room and newly remodeled kitchen (omg, that stove!!) on the main, and a fully finished basement 'apartment' to kick back and enjoy a bit of telly in the evenings. As sweet as the home itself was, what I fell in love with most was their amazing GARDEN! I had a dinner party with friends one of my nights there and none of us could resist wandering outside, wine glass in hand, popping cherry tomatoes into our mouths as pre-dinner 'appetizers'. We took our desserts and coffee out to enjoy beneath the grapevine-draped terrace, talking and laughing well into the night. In the morning my one overnight guest and I breakfasted on the open deck, our omelets filled with produce from the garden 6 feet away. Nancy and Greg were an absolute joy to exchange with, and their communication throughout the process was impeccable.
Susanne's home is in an absolutely perfect location for theatre-going visitors to Ashland. It was comfortable, full of color and charm, and is an example of how one can live with efficiency and creativity in a relatively small space. Clean, well-supplied, with a view of the Ashland hills--we loved it. Susanne's communication prior to our exchange was excellent; she left good instructions and made arrangements for her neighbor to meet us and provide assistance, if needed. We would happily exchange again. Nancy & Greg
