We started on Homeexhange three years ago and have already exchanged over 10 times!
We are Christine, Robert, Hattie and Hannah. Christine is a lawyer (public defender) and Robert is an environmental engineer. Our daughters are 12 and 14. We love to read, ski, hike, camp, cook, eat, travel and entertain. We will take good care of your home and will ensure that our children do as well--they typically play very peacefully, when not reading. We have one cat who mostly stays indoors, Sookie.
In 2010, we traveled to Europe through home exchanges. We have also completed some local exchanges. Home exchange works really well for our family and we look forward to more exchanges in the future!

My family of four (two kids, aged 2 and 4) had a very positive and memorable exchange to Seattle this spring. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed - including lots of new toys for the kids to play with! The Queen Anne neighbourhood has a lot to offer and has a nice community feel to it. Highlights of the area included the local coffee shop and bakery two blocks away, the hole-in-the-wall taco shop, nice strolling and interesting shops an easy 10 blocks away and interesting homes to look at. We spent a lot of time in the newly-renovated kitchen, which was a delight. The family was very easy going about their home and welcomed us like friends to use their space and belongings. In turn, they left our home at least as clean as they received it, and even dropped us off and picked us up at the ferry terminal. In all, a great experience that we hope to repeat in future home exchanges.
We had an excellent exchange experience in Victoria. The home was large and comfortable with a lovely new kitchen. The home has a hot tub immediately outside on the patio. Our daughters spent many happy hours outside in it. The house is in a great neighborhood, close to the university and convenient to downtown. We especially loved the beach located within a mile or two, where we hiked around on cliffs and discovered tide pools and all sorts of fascinating sea live. Driving in Victoria is not stressful and parking is easy to find, even downtown. We loved the BC museum, the miniature museum and Butchart Gardens. We met our exchange family on both ends of the trip and found them to be relaxed and very pleasant. The children were sweet and well-behaved. Our home, upon arrival, was in excellent shape, as was our car. All in all a great experience!
We are a family of four. Our children are 14 and 16 years old. We have been in August 2010 for about 10 days at the home of Christine and Rob in Seattle. We felt very comfortable in their house. Plenty of space and especially the kitchen was extremely nice and we spent many pleasant strolls hours in the kitchen, balcony or in the sittingroom. The house is centrally located (about 10-15 minutes to city center by car, bus station about 5 minutes on foot). Also in our house was everything ok. We all have liked it enormously and we THANK Christine and Rob for this nice and relaxing time in their house. Tim, Tamara, Marita and Pius Bürkli, Switzerland
We spent an amazing month in Europe this summer--ten of those days we spent in Laax, Switzerland at Pius and Marita's home. We were fortunate to meet Pius, Marita, Tamara and Tim in Seattle before our trip. We enjoyed meeting them and were certain that they we would take good care of our home. We were not wrong and found our home in excellent shape when we returned. Their home was fabulous: comfortable and warm and nestled in the mountains. We took several hikes from our backdoor and were able to walk to the grocery store and to several restaurants in their village of Laax. We have children (7&9) and they were also delighted with Laax its playground, its lovely swimming lake and its mountains. The kitchen was perfect for cooking in and the balcony was lovely for dining on. All in all a lovely time and we highly recommend Laax!
We have recently completed a very positive exchange with Christine, Robert and their girls to Seattle. My girls (aged 13 and 11) and I were all comfortable in our own double beds in our own rooms and were able to really rest and relax. The master bedroom is bright and airy and has an ensuite bathroom with a fabulous shower. The house has a lot of character and had everything we needed for an enjoyable holiday. We particularly enjoyed the downstairs TV room with the giant TV and Netflicks on hot days (we hit a heat wave and had no rain!). There are many windows in the house and it was a treat to look out and see trees and the great area. We got Seattle Passes while there and were able to do 6 Seattle activities. The house is well located and we left the car in the carport and bussed to downtown and to Seattle Centre. We also enjoyed the Queen Anne area and had some nice walks. There is a local Trader Joes that was very handy for groceries. Christine, Robert and their girls left our house in great shape and took really good care of our cats. I would exchange again with them anytime! Melanie
We stayed at this lovely home for a week in early August. The place is cozy and comfortable. We especially loved the back deck and yard. Our girls loved the trampoline! Melanie was incredibly diligent and thoughtful about writing a manual for her home and her neighborhood-she was very organized about the process and we knew that we could rely on her. They left their home in perfect shape for us and they left our home tidy, clean and in excellent shape. The location of the house was fabulous: very close to the city center and just a few blocks from the water. We took our bicycles to Victoria (though I believe there were several at the house) and rode along the water on one of the most visually stunning bicycle rides I have ever taken! Beacon Hill park is just down the street from the house as is Craigdorrach Castle. We have very fond memories of our trip to Victoria!
We stayed with Christine and her family for about a week. We have had no issues with her - very easy going. Good contact. She also let us use her car, which was great. We have done our very best to treat her house the best way we could. She will stay in our house next year. I am sure she will treat our house very careful and in the same way as she would take care of her own house.
Albin and family stayed at our home this past summer. We were lucky to meet them as our exchange was non-simultaneous. We picked them up at the airport and dropped them at our house. They are a very sweet and considerate family who took wonderful care of our home and pets. We would welcome them back any time and look forward to meeting them next year when we stay in their home in Amsterdam!
We had the best homeexchange with Christine and Rob of our already significant experience of 9 exchanges! We got to know each other before the exchange via many skype calls, and we arranged a combined summer camp with their teanagers and ours who became friends. Rob was kind enough to pick up our kids at the airport and invite them for a few days before the summer camp. We finally got to meet the last day when we all stayed together in theire home, and we are real good friends now. As for the house, it's really comfortable with a wonderful kitchen, a beautiful deck with a Jacuzi to rest from the visits of the city at the end of the day. Queen Ann is one of the best district of Seattle which is a city really worth a visit. We more than warmly recommand an exchange with Christine and Rob who are really nice persons, always trying to help and make your stay unforgettable! Sibylle and Samuel
Exchanging homes with Rob and Christine was our best experience on HomeExchange ever! At first we talked extensively about the organization of the trip, as we come from far away in Paris and wanted to send our teenage kids to a summer camp first. Not only Christine found us a summer camp close to her house for both her kids and ours, but Rob picked them up at the airport, while they were invited to stay two days in their house. We also got to meet them the last day of our trip when we all stayed together in their house and all became friends. Staying in their home was really awesome! They live in one of the best neighborhood of Seattle which is really worth a visit with both city sights and nature wonders (mountain and sea combined). In their comfortable house, the gourmet newly remodeled kitchen and the patio with a Jacuzzi are worth mentioning. Christine and I spent so much time talking that they new exactly what activities to suggest us and they guided us through their city and neighborhood to cover all our needs. Needless to say that they treated our house like theirs and everything went fine. That's for sure not a one time exchange, we'll keep in touch. Sibylle and Samuel
Lucky us to land in Montparnasse at this amazing home! We have been exchanging for five years and have completed over 15 exchanges. This has been one of the best! We were delighted when Sibylle and Samuel agreed to the exchange! We had been prepared to live in a tiny apartment, as long as the location was good (Seattle ain’t New York and everyone wants to go to Paris). We struck gold with this place. I can’t imagine that there are many apartments in the center of Paris that are as large and comfortable as this one. The kitchen is large, bright and well stocked with excellent tools and appliances. We happily cooked many meals there. The living room off of the kitchen is cozy, yet spacious, with lots of comfortable seating. They have a beautiful library on the walls and lining the staircase. The art all around is extraordinary. One thing that they didn’t mention in our correspondence, and which delighted us, was their incredible selection of movies and TV shows. They had old movies, new movies, art house movies, and every TV show series that was worth watching in the last 10 years. Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t watch TV all day, or even every day, but at the end of a long day of being a tourist in a large city, there was nothing like lounging around and watching a good movie in a comfortable space. Our girls loved it! The neighborhood exceeded our expectations. We were close to the Montparnasse train station, which will take you to many places in France. More importantly, we were three minutes away from the metro stop, Pernety. In Paris, of course, metro stations are everywhere and we loved the speed and efficiency of the system. We also walked to major sites from our home: Notre Dame, the catacombs (very close), Rodin, Louvre, D’Orsay, Pompidou, Eiffel Tower. Aside from the catacombs, most of the above mentioned places were a 30-40 minute walk. Montparnasse is a great place to stay as it mostly has Parisians, is very urban and has a lot to recommend it. We loved our neighborhood bistros, butchers, bakeries, grocers, and shops. I can’t imagine that it gets much better than Montparnasse if one wants to live as a Parisian. Communicating with Sibylle was effortless; in the beginning we communicated frequently and quickly built trust. Luckily for us, Sibylle and Samuel’s English was excellent. We were fortunate to host their children for a couple of days before the exchange officially began and to meet each other at the end of the trip for their last night in Seattle. Exchanging homes is not only a great way to travel but can also be a wonderful way to meet people and to better understand the culture of where you go. Our exchange with Sibylle and Samuel exceeded our expectations in every way.
