If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like being a celebrity, then Kellie and Tim’s place in Ranchos de Taos will give you a brief taste of it. The St Francis church that sits in the centre of the plaza opposite their house may be one of New Mexico’s most famous landmarks, but few of those who come to visit it resist the temptation to train their cameras on the picturesque door that leads into the entrance courtyard to Kellie and Tim’s home, which means you’re bound to be caught on film at least once in the course of your stay, and I guarantee you’ll look very pleased with yourself.
This is not just a beautiful house, it is a house of great character, a worthy inhabitant of the historic plaza on which it sits. The scenery around Taos will draw you from it time and again – to the mountains, to the desert, to the Rio Grande – but you will always be glad to get back to it and the sense of sanctuary it provides. Given the immense, relaxing rooms it offers, the mosaic- and flower-filled courtyard, and the extensive garden with its firepit and tree-slung hammock, you will find it hard to leave at the end of your stay.
As for its lucky owners, Kellie and Tim have an impeccable sense of hospitality, are kind, courteous, reliable and straightforward exchangers, and are great company if you are fortunate enough to actually meet them.
