- Machiel university professor (50)
Hallo from the old Jewish quarter of Amsterdam
For over 30 years I have lived in this beautiful canal house in the center of Amsterdam. First as a student, later - and after thorough renovation- as faculty (philosophy) at the university, together with my 2 kids (high school girl and university student). We love reading and enjoy music, both passively as concert goers and actively by playing piano, violin and by singing.
September 1 — October 19, 2014
I'm invited as a visiting scholar to the University of Ottawa and am looking for an exchange during that particular period.
October 17 — October 25, 2015
Biennale visit for ca. 4-5 days within this period. Simultaneous exchange preferred but not required.
We - my kids and me - like to play and sing music: whether it is at home, in a choir or in an orchestra, making music together is always special. Going to concerts and operas is perhaps the next best thing and fortunately, Amsterdam has a lot to offer: from modern opera to world music and classical symphony. I even at times deliver commentary as a philosopher to national broadcasts of opera or classical concerts. So yes, music makes the heart tick.
