World class food, museums, theatre, nature, fashion, baseball, design and more in our 7x7 city.
A family of five. We love to hike, bike, kayak, swim, paddle board, ski (I snowboard but am getting too old!), cross country ski, ice skate, whale watch, visit museums, great architecture, theater and more. Our idea of a perfect vacation is lots of exercise, great food and if possible, great art museums and design. My husband and I have both lived in Argentina. He has also lived in France. We met in New York City 16 years ago and have lived in New York, Chicago and San Francisco in our 14 years of married life. Our children love to read. We love San Francisco and feel like we are on vacation when homework and laundry don't keep us from exploring it. So much to see here. If you love culture we have the museums, shops, ballet, opera, symphony and theater to keep you happy. If being out hiking, surfing, biking, paddle boarding or boating is your thing, San Francisco has that too. Or go and see the World Champion San Francisco Giants play baseball. They just won the world series in 2014 again for the third time. Families will have plenty to keep them busy with their children here. We look forward to helping you plan a wonderful time here in San Francisco.

Great museums, hikes, fresh and healthy food, architecture and mid-century furniture.
The Atkisson family home is lovely, and you couldn't ask for a better tour guide in Nettie! The house is in one of the very nicest parts of San Francisco - really central, being just off Filmore Street with all its cafe bars and boutiques. It is huge! Very stylish, comfortable and bright with a lovely sunny back garden and absolutely loads of toys. My boys were in heaven! We really loved the excitement of being so central, and for several days decided to walk everywhere to take in the buzz of the city, the crazy hills, quirky and colourful Victorians and ever-changing vistas. When our calf muscles could take it no more we borrowed the large family car to see the many sights Nettie recommended. Not a day went by without another great suggestion from street food in the Presidio to hiking at Land's End, museums in Golden Gate Park and bike rides across the bridge. Nettie and family were extremely kind and accomodating - sorting out baby seats for us, a cot, bikes, and much more. We were lucky enough to meet up at the end of the exchange and have since become great friends. San Francisco is an amazing place to spend a few weeks. We were there for four weeks in total (including two in Berkeley) and so also got to explore the surrounding area. Marin County - across the Golden Gate Bridge - is beautiful... lots of hiking trails, coastal drives, wild beaches, Redwood forests, and it's only a half-hour drive from Nettie's home. We also made a trip to Yosemite, which was just incredible. What a lovely time we had, thanks to the Atkisson family!
We had an absolutely fantastic stay in San Francisco. The Atkisson's home was perfect for our family of four. Plenty of room for us, comfortable and spacious. The renovated kitchen was a pleasure to work/cook in and the location could not be beat - so close to so many markets, cafes and restaurant with very easy access to the rest of the city as well. We took a quick midweek trip to Monterey, it was just great all around. The Atkissons stayed in our house in DC and were very respectful and clean and were a joy to work with throughout the entire process, honest in all dealings. The only problem with Home Exchange is that we don't get to actually meet these folks!
We had a delightful exchange with the Atkssons. Firstly, because of San Francisco itself, as the Atkisson family's house is the perfect place to explore San Francisco. You can take the bus directly to the financial district to San Francisco, or walk a few blocks to take the bus to Union Square or the cable car that is on California street. Or you can borrow the bikes and just explore everywhere (beware of the hilly roads though !), the Presidio is nearby with gorgeous views of the bay and the Golden Gate, the Golden Gate park and its museums easily accessible by bike too. Secondly, because their house is great to relax after all the visits. Our children enjoyed the numerous toys and books (and the bouncing castle...), while we enjoyed the fantastic kitchen (I wish I had the same one, it is a dream of a kitchen), the overall space, the small and calm garden and, of course, Netflix on the Internet. The house is close - on foot - to many nice restaurants, patisseries and grocery stores. We followed their advice and went to B Patisserie, roam burgers, Smitten ice cream, Whole Foods and Trader Joe. The Atkissons lent us their car and we were able to make a fantastic trip to Lake Tahoe, Sequoia National Park and Yosemite with it. Their car is a van, really nice for a family with plenty of luggage when going on a camping and rock climbing trip and we were glad we were able to use it. As the Atkisson have a garage, it is very practical too to use it. Thirdly because the Atkissons were awesome people to exchange with, with a lot of thoughtful touches for us on our visit or their stay at our place. They took perfect care of our home and car too. We had also a lot of fun in exchanging our experiences in San Francisco and Paris through emails and video. To conclude, we will be glad to come back anytime !
