taste our Ghent cosiness during your holiday
We are Jan, Karen,Seppe and Kamiel. We'd love to discover the world and live many adventures. We had our first exchange experience in april (Amsterdam) and it was really fantastic! In the summer of 2014, we enjoyed 2 lovely exchanges in Ireland, our second home!
We have already arranged some long weekends in Belgium and France for the coming months and our summer exchange 2015 to Oregon (USA)!
But of course, we are very curieus and open for more offers and are really looking forward to hear your story….
If you'd like to discover our country, come and take a look what we can offer you of new and interesting horizons.
We love discovering unspoiled nature through it's inner beauty and are grateful to carry those special moments in our hearts. If you have such a nice place you want to share with us, please let us know...
We did an exchange of almost a week in april and we had a wonderfull time! Jan and Karen are very friendly and correct; so we had an easy and smooth exchange with them. The house is one of those in which you feel instantly at home. It is cosy, warm decorated and all you need is available. And we especially love their garden which is a perfect hang out; it is really adorable and perfect for children. Enough space to play and discover, since it is also not possible for the kids to leave the garden without entering the house it is very comfortable for the parents too... We enjoyed moving around in Gent by bike. The bikes of Jan and Karen are comfortable and have also seats for little children. We are very enthusiastic about this experience and can highly recommend an exchange with Jan and Karen. Kind regards Helger and Inge-Lize.
Our first home exchange experience at Inge-lize and Helgers'place was fantastic! Inge-Lize and Helger are very friendly and correct, as a result we felt very comfortable to change with them. They had great tips for us and have an incredibly beautiful home, equipped with all modern comfort and lovely sights from different rooms. The house offers lot's of space - great for the children to play - and is located in a quiet rural area next to the river Amstel. Because of its convenient location you can easily choose a day of nature or a day out in Amsterdam, everything is within cycling distance so we used the bikes on a daily basis. The children just loved the 'bakfiets'. We are very enthusiastic about this experience and can highly recommend an exchange with Helger and Inge-Lize. Kind regards, Jan and Karen
We spent a wonderful week in Jan and Karen's lovely home during our summer holidays of 2014. Everything was exactly as we would have wished for. The home was spacious, modern and very comfortable. Their home manual was very helpful, with crystal clear instructions on all aspects of their home and they also provided a very good guide to places of interest in the region. The weather, their close proximity to the beautiful medieval city centre of Ghent, easy access by tram to all the beautiful bars and restaurants of this wonderful city made this holiday most enjoyable. Our own home was also very well taken care of, as was our car. We will remember our holiday of 2014 with great fondness - especially the Ghent music festival - and we would highly recommend an exchange with the Jan and Karen.
We had a very tasty weekend in Ghent thanks to Karen and Jan ( 2 nights/ 2 days) and it was just perfect. The house was spotless, very well decorated and the fridge full. ( crazy strawberry jam, unforgettable) .The house is very well situated, very quiet and with a beautiful sunrise view from the kitchen. We enjoyed so much their house and the endless garden that the children did not leave the garden house ( in the back back end of the garden, that 's where some toys are kept) the 2nd day, playing the drums and playmobil all day long. We must say that we had a long first day in ghent walking a lot to enjoy this beautiful city. the perfect city for chocolates lovers like us. we had also the surprise to find a lovely chocolate cake in the fridge when we came home and the house was all cleaned up too. For sure, Karen, Jan, Seppe and Kamiel are to be recommended.. Thanks again for this lovely weekend!
A big thank you to Jan and Karen for this wonderful swap during may week end. Their modern and practice home have a lot of charm, just 10 minutes by tram or bicycle from the Ghent center. A large garden allows children to play in peace. Really a good choice. (The house is based in front of Ghislain Doctor Museum). They are also very attentive and very much valued their welcome. Ghent is a city that changes the atmosphere in just 3 hours from Paris, with lots of charm. We recommend particularly Alijn’s house, Design museum. Don’t worry, you will be charmed jerome and sophie
We just returned from a wonderful four week exchange with Jan, Karen, Seppe, and Kamiel in their beautiful Ghent, Belgium home. From the very beginning, when we first contacted them for a potential exchange, everything went smoothly and we had great communication. We now consider them our Belgium friends and hope to meet in person some day! Their modern home was a perfect fit for our family of four. It was beautifully decorated and very clean- it had everything we could possibly need. Our kids loved their rooms and could play for hours in the huge backyard which included a sand pit, swings, bikes, and great lounging chairs for the parents! The location of the home was just perfect. A quick walk up the street leads straight to the tram stop which will take you directly into the heart of Ghent, or to the train station. It was also close to markets, bakeries, and a weekly farmers market. Ghent is centrally located to explore other parts of Europe. We took a couple of short trips to Bruges and Brussels by simply packing our backpacks, hopping on the tram to the train station and in the less then 30 minute train ride, we were exploring another amazing city in Belgium. We were also able to use their car for a longer road trip through France. The city of Ghent itself is beautiful and fun to explore. We were lucky enough to visit during their annual music festival of Ghentfest. What a treat! The whole city is alive with smiling faces, delicious street food, and music everywhere. But even after the festivities, Ghent is just lovely with its canals and architecture. Plus the food is pretty amazing- can I just say "all you can eat ribs!" When we returned to our home, we found it just how we had left it. We were happy to know they enjoyed their time here as well. We would highly recommend exchanging with this family! Thank you Jan, Karen, Seppe, and Kamiel for sharing your home with us and adding to our life's memories.
What an experience swapping our homes with this wonderful family…. From their very first proposal last September, we directly felt very comfortable and had a fun time writing, joking, sharing experiences with Stephen and Lea which made the road towards the destination also very valuable. People from Portland and Oregon are very proud and happy to live in that part of the world and we understand perfectly why. We really enjoyed exploring nature’s beauty and were happy to use the car and camping stuff. We visited / discovered three states, Oregon (Painted hills, Smith Rock, Crater national Park, national Dunes recreation area), Washington (North cascade national park and San Juan Islands) and California (Redwood national park) and on these trips we were very lucky to see loads of wildlife and to meet very nice people. We will never forget, the Orca’s, humpback whales, sea lions, bald eagles, elk, rattler snake,….and the horse riding in the prairie while enjoying wine down ranch air bnb. If you love unspoiled, endless nature, this place is a very good location… Also, Portland was a very nice city to stay. People are easy going and always ready to help and even cycling in the inner city is very child friendly. Closer to the house, we really enjoyed Grant park, our almost daily visit while in town and our shopping and eating in the New Seasons, a shop with a social function going from the recruitment of their staff till organized games night on Thursday, all things we really appreciated while enjoying local live. The house itself had everything we could have hoped for and is very tastefully decorated, a perfect place for ourselves and the children. The children loved their rooms, the toys and not to forget Holli, the cat .. Home exchange is obviously about the sharing economy, travelling ‘light’, sharing experiences and visiting places recommended from inside out, but sometimes, very occasionally, it’s also about friendship, and we do consider the Lucero clan as our American friends we hope to meet someday in real life.. We like to thank Stephen, Lea, Campbell and James very much for our ‘common journey’, for the good laugh before and during our stay, for their proposal and for the good care for our home in Ghent. A family we would warmly recommend !
